    Quick check

    Hey guys,

the car I just bought doesnt have any spark. It has a new/rebuilt
head on it, and was wondering if there was a way to make sure that its on right if i ever get it to fire up. I am guessing you have to take off the timing belt to do that, so i would also know if theres a way to make sure thats on like it should be before firing up. Cuz I dont wanna try to solve the problem until I know that I can try and turn it on w/no worries.

    thanks.

You could check torque on all fasteners if you wanted. Check headgasket installed/located correctly. Check/Relube the camshaft with moly-based grease (I forget exact name), check condition of valve stem seals, spark plug tube o-rings to make sure they are in good condition or were replaced in this case...these commonly go bad, why not take the time now to make sure they're good. Last but not least, check your ignition timing.

Story time... back in the day my dad had a valve job done on his Dodge Omni and my uncle helped him out. Well, my uncle put the headgasket in wrong and it plugged up a oil port causing it to overheat the head and it seized up. That is why I mentioned to recheck this.

Was this a rebuilt head and who did the work... Honda? Because I wonder on the quality of the headgasket as well. Replacing it would be $55 Honda OEM or I hear Cometic are supposedly better and cheaper.

now it just all depends on the person...they detailed, mechanically inclined, etc?

well, I'll be ripping the cyl head off my F22a1 engine here soon, so I prolly be able to help u out more once a get a look at mine and remove more parts of it to ready it for shipping/machine work.

Check cam timing, pull off the valve cover, set #1 @ TDC, and make sure the cam is in time with the crank. Either this or the distibutor is 180 degrees out. But if you have no spark at all, I doubt these could be your problem. Only thing else you can do is double check all of the wiring connectors, i.e. distributor, and make sure they are all plugged in correctlly.

Well i know why it wont start.. the clutch switch is broken. But in trying to figure it out, the guy replaced the head.... and he never figured out the problem, so thats why i got it for 500. The gasket/rings are not lined up @ all(sticking out of the walls of the spark plug holes) so im not trusting his work.

Nah, the guy he bought the car from did this work...that's who Aero3685 don't trust. So he's going to recheck his work, which is what I'd do for sure. He got a bad a$$ deal on the car, why let it go to crap...least you have a rebuilt cylinder head!! hahaha that's tight bro. Just take ur time, check it all and I'm thinking you'll be pretty happy when that baby is running.
