    oil light

so i was driving home from wrok today and all of a sudden my oil light started blinking so i pulled over and everything was fine . full oil , no leaks , no weird smells or sounds. the light comes and goes and only usually comes on during idle and when i rev it in neutral. what coiuld this be and how can i find out what it could be? and what are the estimated prices to the parts to fix it? thanks

do you know the exact name of the sensor that might need repalcing? and where it is located?

Theres an oil pressure sensor on top of your oil filter i think or it could be your oil pump took a shit if everything looks fine. But it sounds like the sensor might be bad.

if the oil pump takes a shit, how hard is it to replace it?

well yesterday my oil light came on and I went out and purchased a new VC gasket cause I knew it had a small leak, PCV valve since I was taking off the cover and I brought a oil sensor. On the way home I did a oil change when the light came on. But to no success the light still remains blinking. I checked the valves and the oil is present and I constantly check the dipstick for oil. I have had a dent in my oil pan pushing it no higher then the height of a dime and its been there since GOD talk to Moses. I can not find a answer to why this is happening other then thinking that I recently changed my entire exhaust from headers back. But still that shouldnt really effect the oil pressure. I am gonna try to do a oil pressure test tomorrow but feel its a waste since I know my engine is getting fresh oil on the valves. I feel the pressure from the PCV valve blowing. I will loose my freaking mind if I now have to change the oil pump and so forth. I even went so far as to resetting the ecu thinking it may need to re adjust the for the CAI and Exhaust changes. O yeah I took each plug out and cleaned them to see if oil was present but none found. I even did a rapid coolant flush from the Radiator to make sure no oil and my car doesnt smoke at all other then the fact that it has no real cat but the Egay one. The funny thing is now my car idles like a dream so smooth I cant really feel it in the steering wheel. Holding its idle at 750 to 800 rpm like I feel its suppose to

the electrical wires to the sensor ontop of your oil filter housing might be loose, , pull off the boot then put it back on...

this happened to me also while i was driving...oil was full...i just changed the oil pressure sensor thats it...it was fine after that...its pretty easy to change, its right above the oil filter and only cost a couple of bucks

I have changed the sensor already but still have the blinking aka idleing oil light. I also changed the vc gasket and PCV valve but nothing as worked at this point.

                  Fyi

The low oil pressure indicator light works in two ways.
It will flash continuously following a momentary loss of
oil pressure, or it will go on and stay on with a complete
                  loss of engine oil pressure.
                  the engine (ground).

When the engine first starts, before oil pressure rises
                  above 25 kPa (0.25 kg/cm2, 3.6 psi), current flows
through the low oil pressure indicator light and the engine
oil pressure switch to ground. This tests the circuit.
With the engine running, voltage is applied to the flasher
circuit of the integrated control unit. With normal engine
oil pressure, the engine oil pressure switch is open and
the low oil pressure indicator light does not go on. If the
engine oil pressure switch closes momentarily (more than
0.5 seconds), but then opens again, terminal "A1" will
sense ground through the switch. The integrated control
unit will then provide and remove ground for the low
oil pressure indicator light through terminal "A1". The
light will flash on and off until the ignition switch is turned
                  to "Off".
If engine oil pressure falls below 25 kPa (0.25 kg/cm2,
3.6 psi) and does not increase, the engine oil pressure
switch will stay closed. The low oil pressure indicator
light will go on and stay on.

                  To test Sensor:

Remove the YEL/RED wire from the engine oil pressure
                  switch.
Check continuity between the positive terminal and
                  the engine (ground).
1)There should be continuity with the engine
                  stopped.
2)There should be no continuity with the engine
                  running.
continuity-all that means is to see if there is voltage going to the sensor, take a volt meter and put it to the setting where it shows if there is voltage present(not messureing it, just seeing if voltage is pressent), i think its one turn back from the off, at least on mine it is)...

I have narrowed the list down to just a few problems that could make my oil light to come on at this point.

                    One
The opening around the oil sensor is leaking
                    Two
The oil pan might need to be re tighten
                    Three
The oil pickup has seen its final days or crap in my oil pan
                    Four
The possiblity of a short in the oil sensor(Doubt it but who knows)

But I can say this I had no choice but to drive my Accord to NYC from south jersey in traffic to and from and I didnt have not one problem except the oil light flashing when coming to stop and go traffic. 1 1/2 hr drive each way and not one sign of failing pressure

Its your oil pressure switch. Its above the oil filter. Its roughly $30 at Honda. Be sure to use a deep socket to get it off.

Mine went bad in 2003. Took maybe 20 mins to change.

Dude if you read my earlier post I have already changed the sensor and the light is still on. My sensor was only 7 bucks at the Auto Store.

And its a 15/16 socket that I used

well I found my problem or what I feel is the problem to my oil light blinking. I found that the rear balance shaft seal started leaking. I first thought it was from the valve cover or oil pan but after removing the timing cover and so forth I found what I belive is the source of my problem. I pray this repair will fix my motor and that in the blinking of the light wasnt because of something else like bearings or etc. Funny enought after I removed the everything I found that my balance shaft was off by one tooth when I had it replaced last summer with the timing belt and water pump.

I wish this problem now had happen sooner so I can go back and kick the shop arse for f ing up the job.
