    New Clutch Not Breaking in

I put in a new clutch and flywheel in 1991 HA LX. I got about 400 miles of straight local driving and 10 miles on the highway but this morning I took the highway again to see how well the clutch break in is going .An I noticed when I gotten around 60 mph and let the rpm's get to 4 to 5k.Depressed the pedal to let it idle down a bit and then repressed the pedal the clutch slipped from 3k to 6k until it caught again. I know the tranny is fine and it can only be the clutch. But I dont know what I could of done wrong. I did everything to factory spec's when doing the job. I took 2 days of slow working to get the job done once so that I wouldnt have to change again for another 8 years but it keeps slipping. I have all fluids at the level and bleed the clutch until clear fluid was left. I adjusted the pedal so that its soft when engaging and then made it harder but it still slips. Anyone have a problem like this before? and what did you do to correct it ? I feel as if the pressure plate is failing but I double checked all the part numbers to make sure they are the right ones. I dont want to take it to a tranny shop cause they are gonna charge me the same price as if they are putting the clutch in. If you need more info let me know.

I have a manual Flatbed,Mx-3(v6),Legend and I converted my old Fleetwood caddy. Clutches normally last around 6 to 8 years except in my truck which I got about 3 years out of it but its new and I know I tow alot. I dont think I could of broken it in wrong and I changed clutches since god knows how long but this time something went wrong but maybe I am getting old.

Do you mean the light flim coating that was one the flywheel or do you mean the lube used when doing the job.

maybe your rear main seal took a shit on you.Get under the car and see if there is oil dripping from the clutch cover.

I think he means there may be some crap on it from when you installed it. I think I had the same problem with mine for about 600 miles after install... would beat on it, and it would slip, but it wore away soon, and now its all good.

The main seal is always changed when doing the clutch. I am very anal about stuff like that cause I hate to have to go back in again. So I normally dont do a job unless I have everything that I need. Meaning that if I am changing the timing belt I try to change all parts while they are off. I do recall have a very very small amount of grease on the flywheel but it was from my hand and cleaned off unless it didnt all come off. But that has happen before and never caused a problem like this even tho this is my 3nd time changing the clutch on the honda. The first time I changed it was the day I got it since I wanted to start fresh(Anal) on a clutch and it was a few years old already

its possible the new clutch is defective. I've had friends get on new clutches as soon as they installed them with no slip at all. I always follow the manufacture recommendation plus a few hundred miles.

                Good luck.
