Whats transmission code 9?

My cousin is having this problem with his 92 lx automatic.
I pulled the code for him and It comes up only with code 9.
And I checked online and I got: Counter shaft or transmission speed pulse generator open or shorted.

What does this code mean?
I googled it and searched for 30 mins and nothing concrete on it.

Also I disconnected the battery and the code went away for like 10 mins and when he started to drive again the d4 light started to blink again.

Exactly What is Says: Counter shaft or transmission speed pulse generator open or shorted
Make Sure the Pulse Sensor Wire is still connected and check the harness hasn't been damaged by rubbing on the Driveshaft.
Not Connected = Open
Rubbing/Worn Through = Shorted.

Symptoms: Tranny will shift like a bastard, Late shifting & flaring/slipping.
Location: Rear of Tranny near RH Side Drive Shaft. Black Sensor, Harness Connecter near Starter.
