    emissions/inspection

Hey guys, I was wondering if jdm engines pass inspection like the jdm h22 or even the usdm h22, has anyone had problems passing inspection and or emissions with an engine swap

you have to take it to a state referee for it to be able to pass. a bitch IMO. evry thing has to be hooked up 100% correctly no MIL or anything can be present.
FS: BNIB MFactory FD $650, PM me.

the place u have to bring it to is BAR...i forgot what it stands for but thats the place they certify shit. its nice to make friends with them.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Yeah, I know about the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair). I was just wondering what MIL means/stands for. Too bad my friend isn't crooked (smog tech).

why not try a private place like a gas station? i've never gone to one, so i wouldn't know how it goes, or what they do, but i wouldnt think PA is as strict as other places like CA.. although i could be wrong since i don't live there

Because if you don't have a stock engine you have to have the state certify that your "new" motor is emissions legal. Once its certified you can take it to any shop to get it smogged.

I've heard that jdm engines are not emissions legal so I guess that would mean that dropping a JDM engine in our cars would create a problem w/ the BAR people... Anyone know the legality of a JDM engine swapped into our cars?

I'd just imagine that a USDM would be less trouble than the JDM

There's no BAR in PA. That's a Cali only thing. Technically a JDM engine isn't emissions legal but if its in good order and correctly installed with the emissions equipment there's no reason it won't pass an emissions test.

In WA jdm swaps are not illegal, but you can't get a emissions waiver either. They just plainly state that you need to get it passed one way or another no matter what. In my case I have to do a state to state title transfer which I can't do till I pass emissions. I've had the car since october and still have not got it through, It's not easy. After 30 days they start to fine you each day until you pass, but the fine only can reach a max of $100.

as far as i know, jdm engines are not smog legal...the only way you could go if you want to be legal is to get a usdm h22 which will lower the total horsepower by only a bit though. my friend says that he knows a place that could just pass my smog test for like 100 bucks once i get my swap in...but thats your best bet, to find someone crooked to pay off to pass you...or like i said, go with usdm and bypass this whole thing, just make sure that all the emission connectors and all that other stuff is connected.

It totally depends on the referee. Some won't notice that its JDM. I mean, the only difference you can see is the internal coil dist. All my emissions stuff is hooked up (it's the same as USDM). I'm gonna get my car legal damnit!!
