    only 3 cylnders firing

i have a huuge problem, and have searched and found nothing. my motor has just been rebuilt by me and i reworked the head also. my motor is running like its having siezures off of 3 cylnders the #1 cylnder isnt working. i have spark through the plug wire to it, but no combustion.

    i have checked:
    the injector
    vaccume
    grounds
    timing
    head gasket
    IM gasket
    TB gasket
    spark plug
    the gap on the plug
    the wires
    the dizzy
    the oxygen sensor
    coolant level
    pretty much everything

i have even tried a P14 manual prelude ECU as well as the PT3 f22a1 ECU
    any ideas!?

Ok, heres the deal, theres three things that makes an engine work:

    air/fuel
    spark
    Compression.

If it has all three and still not firing, the engine is flooded.

I doubt only your cyl#1 is flooded so heres what you need to do:

    Make sure you got spark.
Make sure you got fuel, what do you mean by "checke the injector"?
    Make sure you got compression.

So you say you rebuilt the engine your self?well, did you adjust the valve clearances?out of whack valve clearances=no compression=no fire.

I think this is a compression issue.Get a compression guage from advance auto and go to work.

Pull the spark plug out and see if it smells like gas after you had it running.

well i have allready done everything you said.... and nothing i adjusted the valves 1 cylnder at a time like i need to. i know exactly how an engine works, and dont need that explained to me, what i am trying to say is i have all 3 but it just doesnt seem to be working. i mean checking the injectors by putting a flat blade screwdriver to them and listening, you can hear them ticking that means they are working and yes the spark plug smels like gas. anything else? i dont have a compression gauge, but when turning the motor by hand and taking the plug out, you can hear air escaping the hole its very noticable and audibale.

np didnt mean to sound like i was coming off like that, but obviously if i can rebuild a motor, a know how one woeks and am very familiar with this one, i have done everything you sasid but use a ompression gauge and vaccume gauge, i will be doing that today hopefully but i highly doubt thats it. now i discovered yesterday ofter i posted, that now i am having some lighting problems now as well, when i never have before... this leads me to think there is a grounding problem?? i have checked the one on the hard water pipe and its good, i sanded it down and everything so its pefect. i havent checked the main one from the battery. its bolted down but i dont know how well its grounded. ill check these things and get back with you thanks!

(forgot to mention yes i am very frustrated, my friend bent 13 valves in my H23 head, which is why i have to put the single cam head back on!)

I saw some one on h-t completly rebuilt his motor but it wouldnt start up and had zero compression. He adjusted the valves and the bitch fired right up.

You are leaking compression or flooding cyl.#1, just get a compresion gauge and be done with it.HG could of not sealed right either.

i am going to check it today, but i used a brand new head gasket, nothing wrong with it, and i used mr.gasket copper top sealer on the block, gasket and head, so like i said i think its sealed ill check anyway cause im out of ideas, but you can hear the air coming out of the spark plug hole if you rotate it by hand on the intake stroke when its supposed to hold the compression (compression stroke) but maybe thats it and maybe its the valves?? i dunno im at school right now so i cnt check. but any ideas on the electrical stuff, what grounds or leads would mess it up if any, like i said i am having problems with my lights now and i didnt before so its really wierd.

i'm just waiting on you to say you did a compression check with a gauge. I'm no expert, but until i actually saw compression levels on some kind of gauge, then i'd say it was something else if it was good. just $.02

np i understand i think im first gonna try ILBBs suggestion and try the rocker arm adjustment and get myself a compression gauge, but still anyone got any suggestions on why my lights would start Fin up all of the sudden??? i checked the fuses but i dont know how to tell if a relay is bad anyone?

I had similar problem, was intake manifold gasket! Was split right under the injector! ( = vacuum leak, causing it to stuttre and surge) so it wasnt running on all 4! I use a can of quik start or ether and spray around all intake plenum and mani areas!

Thank You ILBB and everyone else who offered suggestions and help!

ahh its running good, now my only 2 problems are it likes to kill when i let off the gas, but i think this is cause my o2 wires are kinda scint, and my car wont start by turning the key, i got a jumper wire hooked up to it, so itll start i think its my neutral safety switch im gonna check tommorrow, also one more thing. i have a H23 ECU and a F22a1 ECU, but i have the whole H23 intake and TB on there which ECU to run???
