Adding Synchromesh

Ok so heres the deal, Ive seen all over this board as im sure everyone knows, that Synchromesh is supposed to help fix damaged synchros and take car of those minor grinds. Well here is my question, should i drain all of my tranny oil and put all new synchromesh in? or should i just top my tranny fluid off with synchromesh, or shoudl i drain and do like a 50/50, tranny fluid and synchromesh.

and lastly i lookin into the Haynes Manual and i looked under my car and i see that the fill plus or spot that you add tranny fluid is horizontal....so how do i fill that? any tips or tools i should use? eh... lol thnks

it'll help quiet grinding syncros.,....no oil can "fix" shitty parts. just drain the old shit and fill it up with syncromesh, and u can do this with a long funnel through the top of the engine bay. thats what i used when i had my accord. and fill it up until it starts to spill out of th case.get a long enough funnel so that it can curve into the fill hole. i got mine for $3 from autozone.

Definately drain and fill. It's a closed system with no filtration so any shavings or other such debris will just float around in your newish fluid if you top off. Also it's only like 2L of fluid so don't be cheap .

Regular funnel with some plasic tube pushed on will work. Pour slowly! If you want to have a pimp setup get a funnel with a valve before the long bit. I have that now and it's just better. Plus you could use it to pound a beer later.

only holds 2.1 so 2 will do. the .1 will still be in the trans.

do it dude, half mtf and half synchromesh...i can finally shift from a standstill when it is cold!!! (as opposed to couldnt in the cold)

i found this out last fall, an easier place to put the oil in. Drain, put plug back in, take out the fill plug, and then fill the transmission from the "vent" hole at the top of the tranny. Its right there with the shift cable arms, by the reverse switch wires. There may be a rubber plug on it. I filled my tranny through it until it started coming out the fill hole, put the plug in, and was good to go.

I thought you could use that... but isnt the hole a bit small?

it is small...but its much easier than trying to get a funnel in the stock fill location..

i filled mine in 1 minute. whats so hard about using a funnel? all u need is a long funnel wich they have anywere.....$2, stick it in the fill hole and fill until it starts to dribble out.....simple. adding it through the breather is fine but takes more time. the fill holes there for a reason......use it.

Here's an easy and clean way to fill it that's worked well for me:

Get a large syringe without a needle. The bigger the syringe, the better. The best are the ones for animals, especially horses. Put a length of vacuum hose on the end. Now you've got a device that can push the oil horizontally so you don't have to hold a funnel and hose above the fill hole.

Fill the syringe with oil and place the hose into the fill hole. You can get at it from the passenger wheelwell or from above -- your choice.

It can take several refills of the syringe to fill the transmission. This is why the larger syringes (400cc+) are good.

You could also use a turkey baster or anything similar. The ideal, I think, would be an enema bag.

This is really handy if you have a leaky tranny and are too lazy to fix it immediately. It's a lot easier to top off the tranny with this compared to a funnel.

I just tried this and I have to say it is very easy i just used tubing and sliped it on the hole and fed the syncromesh into the tranny like a baby bottle. Thanks for the tip. Now no more grind in third and like they say very smooth transition in gears while shifting. I found little to no shavings in the fluid. But my clutch still has a minor slip I guess I will be putting a stage 1 or 2 in when I get my tax refund.
