adding fluid? (Power Steering rack)

ok so i plan on replacing my rack and pinion now with a used one from a junkyard... the question is.. how can i add some p/s fluid to the rack i get from the junkyard?
ive had p.s. removed from when i did my swap... ive been running dry rack and steering is sloppy now... i plan on looping the lines this time so i dont run into this problem again.
just wondering if it was as simple as pouring fluid into a hole haha

Are you going to loop the lines at the rack or what? There are 3 lines that you will have to do something with. I would suggest installing the new one, and then getting fluid in there through the stock way, running on it, and then doing the lines.

I have been running no PS forever, but just lately looped the lines and finished it up a week ago. I am not sure what lines are actually under pressure or anything when I was messing with it (you dont want to block off a line if the fluid HAS to go through it to turn.

What I did was loop the two lines that run up to the front cooler. I did that near the drivers tie rod. No pics but I just used a piece of the stock high pressure line which I hacked up, and looped them to each other.

After I did that, I knew I had to have some way to add fluid, and somewhere it can have some type of breather. I solved that by adding another resevoir for the PS fluid.

I filled that up, ran the car, and kept checking it until it didnt take anymore down. Steering doesnt feel much different, but now I know I have fluid in it, and got rid of all the extra lines.

i pretty much hacked up all the lines.. i have nothing power/steering related in the bay... removed everything... so i have no way of running fluid the normal way. i have some lines coming off the rack where everything was cut from and thats it.

i did find this link for a prelude with p.s. removed... i think im gonna do the same and loop off the rack... i just need to know how to get some fluid in there. thanks anyways

To get fluid in the rack, you will want to take any of the lines, best one would be the high pressure one, and stick a funnel on the end or something, something that would collect some fluid, so you can see it. Have the car in the air, add some fluid to the funnel, and crank the wheels all the way to one side, then all the way to the other. keep doing this until it stops sucking fluid, then loop it off.

haha could you help me out again and tell me which one is the high pressure line?

should i have all the other lines looped and closed off while im adding the fluid to the high pressure line?

hopefully i can get that fluid in there... thanks

yeah, you should probably loop all but one, or else it will most likely just leak out the ends of those. There are 3 which will come from the rack towards the front of the car. The two that run side by side go to the cooler, and seperate one is the high pressure one. More that I think about it, any of the ones that go to the front will work.

in the pic it looks like there are four holes... 3 next to each other and another on the side... judging by the pic i loop the 2 front ones which are next to each other and then loop the far left one with that other hole on the far right side? im having trouble figuring out where that far left hole is getting looped too. hah thanks

I cant remember exactly where they all go to. I know I left some of the lines alone, only changed three of them.

Does yours still have lines, or how much are left? I had 3 lines, so thats why it was easier to add in the resevoir.

1. To resevoir
2. oil cooler
3. speed sensor
4. high pressure line
