V-Tec F22a6

The other night i raced my friend and i beat him twice.
He has tha Bubble looking 2001 Civic sedan and he said that
he was converting motor to a Vtec with some kind of piece but its
not a chip. So I want to know is that SHits True and if so is something that can Convert a regular F22a6 to a V-Tec
