Mysterious Problem: Low Idle & Dying Out

This afternoon, the strangest thing happened to me. While at a stoplight, my car mysteriously sputtered and died out. Then, it initially wouldn't start. Finally, I got it to start then it idled really low, sputtered a bit, then died out again. I was in the middle of the interesection at this point so when I finally got it to start for the third time since the mysterious die-out, I pressed the accellerator real hard while pressing the brakes and that finally got it to go. I drove it down a few blocks or so until I could safely pull over. I turned the car off at that point and went in to make a call. When I got back to the car it started somewhat normally. When I put it into reverse, however, it sputtered again so I gassed it real good and that took care of it. Since I was not too far from the Honda dealer I drove right on over there. They were slammed so after waiting in line and finally finding someone to come out and take a look at it, I was frustrated to be unable to duplicate the problem. The really young service advisor looked at me puzzled and could offer no such explanation. He said I could leave the car overnight and they'd hopefully get to it either this afternoon or maybe tomorrow and would charge me $80 just to look at it. Since I wasn't about to be without a car indefinitely and have to pay that much, I figured I'd take my chances. Now that I'm home and it's been a few hours, the car has been driving just fine. I'm at a loss of what could possibly caused this. My only guess is that since it was raining today maybe some water caused it? I don't know because it's never happened before. I service my car regularlly and the car was last serviced just three weeks ago and all systems checked out just fine. Any thoughts? Any similar issues? I love the car but am worried that this might be a sign of things to come?
