    Exhaust sound question?

    I'm wondering what might be causing this sound..
    I've got a 1990 Accord EX, with a JDM H22A.

    I currently have this exhaust setup:
    Megan 4-2-1 header -> 2 1/4" pipe -> resonator -> 2 1/4" pipe -> vibrant muffler

    I'm getting a "ricey" sound... like a rattling almost.. around 2500-4000 rpms, and only with pretty hard throttle.

    I didn't get this before, when I had this setup for exhaust:

    Header -> 1 7/8" stock pipe -> catalytic converter -> 2 1/4" pipe -> muffler

    Any ideas what might be causing this? Or is it just because it's much less restricted? Or could something be loose and rattling around a bit?

    It's hard to tell in this, but I took a recording... This is accelerating in 2nd gear.

          Put your cat back on......Unless you have a turbo.. there is no need to take it off....Trust me i know...Ive done enought exhaust swaps back and forth.
          Dyno tested them as well..Removing your cat only adds to the sound..And ricy is usually the outcome...

            I have almost same issue with the exhaust sound, installed an hi flo cat converter about a year ago and my cat back piping are from my old turbo setup whihc is 2.5" I also got a $300 ebay header. sound like ricey from 2500rpm to 3000rpm then sound mellow down and start ricey again at 3500rpm to 4000rpm. hmm maybe I need to replace my hi flo cat? it did go through 2 engine that was turbo and blew lot of white smoke out the exhaust when the engine blow up.. anyway to check the cat is still good??

              theyre right. a real cat is the only solution. a resonator is just a perforated tube... it will help but will not rid of the noise completely.

              if you wanna get a cat, check out the 300 cell spun cats. ive seen results from bench tests and they flow about 13% more than a carsound highflow cat.

                I have the same sound on my car.. was pondering either a bigger resonator or an OEM cat. I have a carsound cat and 14" resonator. Sound is REAL annoying.

                  increasing pipe diameter should help too. a second resonator may or maynot help but bigger is better in this case.

                  definitely put a cat back on. removing isn't worth the 1-3 horsepower increase.

                    you could also try adding an 18" glasspack....as funny as that sounds, it works on my JDM H22A w/ Megan 421 header. I've got a greddy hybrid Catback w/ a magnaflow street series muffler. And its nice and deep.
