flashing d4 light

i know this is a transmission code problem but my question is how can i find out what is wrong with my car....i know the tcu is under my glovebox somewhere but i can't find it....would a leak in transmission fluid somewhere cause this light to blink? It doesn't start to blink until i have driven down the road for a little minute....any ideas?
