    Rear Main Seal Replacement

I have a 91 Ex coupe and I have found out that I have a leaky rear main seal. I got two quotes on repairing it. Honda wants $902 and another local shop wants $426. I know you pay more at the dealship but I was wondering how much this normally runs and what all it involves. Im pretty sure I cant do it and cause of importance would rather pay to have it done, just want to make sure im not cheaping on it by going with the cheaper guy. Anyone who has any info would really help me out.

The problem with a rear main seal is that you have to take off the transmission to do it. The part itself is 10-15 dollars.

Does it leak a bunch? Or did someone just tell you this? It could just be the oil pan gasket on that side is leaking. Also, how many miles do you have?

I noticed the leak on the floor of my garage and its been going on for about a month. I got my oil changed and checked to make sure it wasnt the oil pan gasket or maybe they threaded the plug wrong. The car has about 155,000 on it.

Before you spend the money..raise the car and remove the cover on the lower bellhousing of the trans. You can then inspect for an oil leak. Should take 20 to 30 minutes max
