My girls 91 Accord EX is starting to smoke pretty bad on cold starts. It goes away as it warms up so I am thinking this is due to old valve guides. Its got about 242k on the clock. What do you guys think I should do, its not too too bad so should i just keep tossing oil in it and just keep running up the miles or do you think it would be worth it to get the head refurbed?? I'm kinda woried about getting the head all freshened up and then something in the bottom end going out, but i guess there is no way to tell what luck my bring. Were working on a tight budget here, but want to keep it in good running order. What do you guys think?? Thanks.

If you're going to have the head reconditioned you have a couple options....
1) Buy a good used head from a member, do install yourself
2) Buy a recondition head (expensive), do install yourself
3) Remove your head and have it reconditioned (cleaned, new valve stem seals, valve job, resurfaced).
It's up to you. Do some research on good used heads/reconditoned ones...price things out see what you find. If you can't handle the head removal and install..well plan on paying for labor on top of what you find...

My plan was to take the head off myself and take it to a local head shop. There is this big place down the road that does nothing but head reconditioning. My main question is with what you guys know about the f22a4, would you recommend doing this to a 242k engine or should i just let it burn some oil and keep putting miles on it? Or, maybe its time to source something lower mileage and or JDM
