    loosing back pressure?

well i have had a good size exhauset leak in my "flex"pipe, the pipe thats connected right to the headers,i am waiting to get it fixed be cause i am not driving it right now but i drive it once and awhile to keep the motor running,it gets cold here, anyways i went out for a drive last night and i just feel like it has shit for power i know a stock engine aint nothing anyways but i had more power on acceleration before the leak, could that leak make me loose a lot of backpressure?besides the way it sounds wich is like a old man farting the power seems to be gone, could that leak cause this problem.if thats confusing can an exhauset leak make a decrease in power and backpressure?
    thanks

Yes an exhaust leak can cause a decrease in power, but it has to be a major exhaust leak. I had the same problem with my flexpipe, which broke off completely, so i was running straight off the header which is very loud, and it did seem to have less power. Backpressure helps pull the exhaust gases out of the combustion chamber when the exhaust valves open, and a lack of back pressure causes the exhaust gases to escape the combustion chamber slower.
