Spark plug resistance?

    Spark plug resistance?

    I have a suspicion that one or two cylinders don't fire some times, so i busted out my trusty craftsman DMM (sarcasm) and decided to do some ohm readings.

    Here is what i got:

    Cyl.#1 plug: 4380 Ohms

    Cyl.#2 plug: 4480 Ohms

    Cyl.#3 plug: 3990 Ohms

    Cyl.#4 plug: 3690 Ohms

    Are these normal? Is an 800 Ohm differance between Cyl#2 and Cyl# 4 plug normal?I searched on spark plug resistances but didnt find anything.

    BTW,cyl# 2 is the cylinder i suspected wasnt firing at some times and it has the higher resistance plug, so that gets me somewhere...

    Forgot to mention, i measured from the end were the spark plug wire connects to the "niple" that sparks.(dont know the terms)

      What about the resistance in your plug wires? That's what I've read needs checking, since if it gets through there it should zap the plug.

      At any rate, a spare set of plugs is a quick and cheap way to find out if one of yours is dead.

        thanx for the response any ways,i checked my plugs because i have two sets of wires so i doubt both set are bad.I have a suspicion its my plugs since i took them off about 25 times with out the "special" spark plug socket, just a regualr one.

        EDIT:i would of just gotten new plugs but didnt have a ride to the store...

          i forgot the limit for the resistance of the plugs but i think it was 1100 ohms. i forgot exactly though.

          hehe is it OEM plugs? if it is just upgrade them anyways =)

          ...or look at your distribitor and rotor to see if the points are good
          What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

          You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

            well, I think plugs are cheap enough to replace if you need to do it and have been waiting. The plug wires are also prone to go, more specifically the one that goes from the coil to the distributer, cuz it does 4x the work right.

              1100 ohms?!?!?!?!?holy shit if thats true or even close to true thats fucked up yo!lol.

              What do you mean by points?the contacts between the rotor and and cap?

              The plugs were ngk 5's.I got bosch platinums now and i will install them tomorow along with setting my tps.
