I've used engine restore before and only have good things to say about it. I use to have a really bad valve seal leak... while I still have the same problem it slowed way down. Instead of adding oil every week I now only add oil every two to three weeks.
Seafoam works great but will not recondition th seals like engine restore.
Oil leak? What oil leak? That's just sweat from all that horsepower!
i heard the engine restore/flushes could actually begin circulating the dirty stuff and potentially clog things.
Close. An engine flush could break up 'chunks' of sludge or other deposits and then they could plug oil passages, leading to oil starvation. I'm not a fan of oil flushes anymore. Most of them are nothing more than kerosene. Would you knowingly use kerosene in your oil? There are a few exceptions. I hear some people like to use 1/2 to a whole quart of Marvel Mystery Oil approx. 100 miles before they are due for an oil change. In this manner it acts as a flush, but it is not as harsh as a kerosene or solvent based product. Other people seem to like Seafoam or Chemtool. They're fairly harsh, so personally I wouldn't use them in my oil.
I used to use this crap once in a while back when I worked for several dealerships that carried it. They all swore by the stuff and I had seen it quiet really noisy engines. However I guess it was just covering up the problems.
My brother had an 86 Fiero back bout 10 years ago and when he first got it, it smoked like crazy! I wish I had a picture on my computer, but trust me, it was a lot of smoke. He changed the oil, tossed in a can of Restore and the smoking stopped almost completely. I've never seen an oil additive work so well like it did to his Fiero. I guess products like that do serve a purpose on old, worn engines.
thats what it did for my f22... not only did the smoking stop... but the gas milage improved as well as the power. And it ran soooo smooooth..... Maybe its just a cover up as someone else says... but its a damn good one worth every penny if you ask me...
