your starter is basically a gear with a switch that pushes the gear out and spins it against the flywheel to crank your engine -- if your car cranks, your starter is good -- if your car only goes "tickticktick" when you go to start, its most likely a bad starter, if it does nothing - its prob. a dead battery

Juan in your case, i WOULD check the main relay, seeing as though you have the problem when the car sits in the sun... refer to my previous post for a how-to

and ANYONE with starting problems, make sure there's no green acid corrosion on your battery terminals - i know that may sound obvious to some, but its amazing what a wire brush can do for your electrical

    breathing is deadly underwater...

Do some routine maintenance, such as she said ^^ clean your terminals, etc. I sort of doubt its the starter to be honest, but check your connections to the starter, grounds, etc.

Being that you live in Minnesotta, you experience some cold-ass weather...

near frigid morning temps and if you park you car outside, it stays cold over night...no sun to warm it up...

At your next oil change, i suggest using a qt. of LUCAS OIL, heavy duty oil stabililzer...this will help in COLD STARTS...as the oil clings to your cylinder walls and coats them nicely...ive been using this in my Prelude, and you dont want to know why we B21 kats have to...lol!

From personal experience, its normal for a cold engine to crank a lot before starting on really cold days. Try pressing the gas pedal a little while starting.
Most likely its a fuel related issue, but still normal especially for old cars.

I dont think its normal.... My car cranks over twice and starts right up, even the other day when it was -2 outside... I'm not saying it doesn't burn a little oil here and there, lol, but she definitely is very reliable!!! I love my honda =D
But back on topic.... yea, check main relay, possible fuel filter problem, reduced fuel flow.... And I believe someone else said it, try doing a full tune up (includes fuel filter) Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil change.... hell you can even go as far as coolant flush too.... See what happens after that, most likely the car should feel brand new...

When I bought my accord it did the exact same thing, it turns out that it just really needed a tuneup. Now in sub zero temps it only takes 2.5-3 sec. MAX and thats with 315k miles. So yeah like sj960 and possible someone else said try tune up shite, especially if its been more than a year i.e. 10k mi. yeah yeah i know 10k might be too soon for some of you but im kinda anal/paranoid when it comes to my car lol

A couple here are on the right track and have suggested to prime the fuel pump until the click is heard.
I think the problem is lack of RETAINED FUEL PRESSURE in the Fuel Rail.
and more than likely is a Faulty FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR.
The simplest way to find out is to remove the FPReg Vacuum Line and smell for Fuel in the Hose. If there is a strong smell of fuel then the Diaphragm is leaking. Replace the FPReg. Another symptom would be High Fuel Consumption.

I have written thread on How To Diagnose Fuel Pressure Problems.

dont use that garbage..i've used it in the two past cars i've owned, all it did was make my engine sound like a sewing machine.. i dont recommend lucas heavy duty oil!!!

i recamend a tune up and change the fuel filter also might be clogged and also i recamend the lucas oil stablizer i have 233k on my cr and it does wonders the engine sounds a lot better, casue everythign is well lubricated but only use it every 30k like says on the bottle and use castral high milege 10 30 oil with it and also when do all this try to put a bottle of chevron techron fuel injector cleaner (black bottle 20 oz or 12 oz) inside the gas tank and throw some super in there might do the trick and also zero degres try some dry gas and run it for a little while u might have some moisture in there

but firts before tune up try the injector cleaner and dry gas and some super before anything
