Heh, yeah, I'm not sure how much of this I've already said in this thread, but unfortunatly I've had this engine apart several times since august when it spun a rod bearing and I rebuilt it with an H23 head and lightweight flywheel. It was my first time removing or rebuilding an engine, so I ran into a bunch of problems and kept having to go back. Sometimes I'm okay with that all of it happened, it's nice having a strong, bulletproof engine... while it's running. But it's had problem after problem and it was double the price of an H23 swap and any troubles which may have been encountered in either swap. Then once it was all done and in, the IACV was messed up, distributor was shot, it caught on fire the first time I cranked it over (I didn't have the main relay out, the coil was connected and I had a fuel leak. Live and learn.) Then some sludgy crap got on the timing belt, I replaced it and it ate it, replaced it again and this happened. So I've been getting better at getting this done, pretty soon I'm afraid I'll be able to sleep walk through it. I will have to remember to take my time anyway though, I'm sure that's a good part of why this happened.

I didn't get done last night either. Caught a hang up when I started putting coolent in before I torqued the head down. When I noticed water dripping out of the head I made the wonderful realization that I'm an idiot, took a break to prepare myself, and went out to pull the head again so I could get the water out of the cylinders. It's an odd feeling hoping that you're right that there's water in there (as opposed to pulling the head again for no reason.) I figured out how to get the head tipped up just right so it wasn't bending the gasket, I didn't have to take the head off, and I could get my hand in there with a rag to soak it all up. I got it torqued down immediately after, put coolent in, and went after the timing belt, but by that time it was 3am and I said forget it. I would get it close to set right, but one gear (usually the intake) would be a tooth off or half a tooth off or so. The marks on my cam gears are wierd. They're close, but off, so getting it as close as possible is a crappy strategy game, you kind of have to think more about where you're actually at. I was too tired for all that, and I'm not about to risk having to do this again. It's really not that hard, but it's rediculously involved. I'll have to remember to stamp in correct marks this time, once it gets right.
And yeah, the pistons are fine. They were a little shiny where they hit, so grandpa sanded them down so there wouldn't be any hotspots. It should be running later tonight, but I'm already tired and have a BORING class to go through in about 30 minutes, so I'm going to be layed out by the time I get back home.
