    High Oil Pressure

hey, my motor is acting real weird, when i start it up the oil pressure shoots up to about 60psi and when i idle its at 25psi, and while i'm cruising at 3 grand, it sits at 50psi. when i go about 3500rpm it goes up to between 70psi-100psi, i'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with my sender, or my gauge. before it would idle at about 15psi, and cruising around 20-30psi, and when i hit vtec anywhere between 65-80psi. idk if those are optimum ranges, i'm just not sure. its an h22a4 with underdrive pulleys, and thats about it. if anyone can help me let me know. thanks

Could possibly be the relief valve spring on the oil pump, thats all I can think of.. Even if you get an undersized crank pulley the oil pump will still spin the same as stock.

Your pressures don't sound too bad really. 50 psi at 3000 rpm is right on the money, and of course when you first start up your car, the oil is thick which will cause higher pressure readings, and since the enginr usually shoots up to about 2000 rpm on a cold start, 60 psi would make sense.

aight, thanks, appreciate the info, this is my only car right now, don't want to mess up the motor.

i just drove it, and i got the numbers wrong, it idles at 25 now, and when i'm cruisin at 3grand it sits at 75 psi, and when i accelerate it jumps straight to 75.

Sounds like you could run 0w20 oil with no prob

my h22a goes to 80 when first starting and almost 90 in vtec. Crusing is about 60 at 3000

Those numbers are fine. It is normal for the oil pressure to be higher when engine is colder, as it warms up it will lower some. Also, it is normal for the idle to be lower pressure and increase with acceleration. I have found that F22ax oil pumps seem to max out in pressure by 4000 RPM, yours is probably similar.

Is is low oil pressure that is a problem.

FYI: If oil pressure light stays on, that means LESS than 4 psi!! If it flickers, that means your are borderline 4 psi.

The numbers are fine, butI'm wondering why would they have suddenly upped by 15 psi across the range from what he used to have? Possibly a clogged oil gallery in the engine?

Honestly, I just went by the values since the OP did not describe the problem with appropriate detail, like the bazillion others on this forum that expect help. If you made more sense of it, then more power to ya, you could have a point.

OP, If your oil pressure readings are correct and they've increased 10-15 psi across the range like you say, I'd wonder if you have an obstruction in the oiling system.

It's important to know where your oil pressure guage sensor is mounted in the oiling system. Is it before or after the filter?

Also, are you using the same weight oil as you usually use? using 40 weight oil instead of 30 weight oil will increase the pressure readings, though I'm not sure by how much.

I understand where you're coming from. Not a lot of detail to go by, but the values are still fine/within range.
