Alright, heres an original problem. I went to turn the heater temp down and it snapped and now turns really easily. I have a 90 EX so the temp control is the rotary knob thing. It still turns, but theres no resistance to it and it doesn't "click" anymore. Whats wrong? What snapped? Now i can't get air beyond the temp that it snapped at (about half way). Does anyone know how I can fix this, or is the dealer the best bet?

the knob itself could just be broken. to replace the knob, which should literally snap into place, shouldn't be anymore than $10 or so.

The same thing happened to me!! Dealer quotes 2.5 hours labour to fix that shit, killer!! If only I knew how delicate that wire is, I would not have given er' so much when turning the knob :PComment

For sure it's the cable and not the knob.. the clicking gives it away, exact same thing happened to me.. wasted my $5 on a new knob that wasnt needed.
Actually, does someone know the name of this cable? I see there are 2 cables coming from the climate control unit in the shop manual, just not sure which one i need to replace...

the cable did not snap,i just fixed mine today,take of your entire trim,then take off the climate control box its 4 screws,look at the back and you will see the cable put the end of the cable back on the white plastic piece the cable has a metal ring at the beggining and end of it slide the ring on the post.very easyComment

Man, i hope you're right. I've taken the dash apart before, not looking forward to that again. Thanks for all the info, big help. If that doesn't fix it, off to the dealer. Too lazy to do it myslef

dont take the dash board off just the black trim around the vents,cluster etc.,and the box i fixed mine a 25 mins all said and done trust me,mine just came off the plastic rod.let me nkow how it turns out.Comment

I presume I can use a flat head screwdriver to removethe trim pieces, and pry them out? The same damn thing happened to me last night and just when it was startig to warm up outside, the heater knob is stuck at super f-ing hot.Originally posted by 91accord4door

Ok, i brefly read this thread and so i dont know what all answer you fot, here is mine. the knob broke on mine too (90 Accord EX). The new knob cost me $6 from Honda. Now what caused it:
The passenger floor mat sometimes get pushe dup under the ceter dash and keep the "flap" door from moving, you then try to turn the knob and it strips it and breaks it. Keep your fllor mats straight and keep all kids of debrie out of the way.
Also dont keep papre napkins in your glove box. I have worked on MANY 4th gens where peol complaint he A/C/ not blowint good air and coem to find a napkin sucked out of the glove box and covered teh A/C? box intake unde the dash.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment

Nope, most of the trim is screwed into place. There is a DIY for painting your trim that details how to remove it. Anyway, I just finished this same repair on my 90 LX and everything works great again. Though if anyone notices a reduced air flow from the vents after they put them back in, pry them out and turn them upside down. The connection between all of the vent directors has to be a specific direction, down I believe, or otherwise blocks air flow. I've got great flow from all the vents now, whereas in the past it was great from the sides, but weak from the center vents.Originally posted by doylna

Hey vmchurch, did you check your knob yet? I've litterally gone through about 10 of those with the two cb7s I've owned. They generally last about a year or two before the plastic knob inside breaks.
However, the cable can snap and it did happen on my 90. Very expensive to fix. Luckily that was when I still worked for a dealer and I got a discount."the J32a2 should be considered one of Honda's masterpieces..." Honda Tuning, July 2006

In our 88 Integra the cable disconnected from the temperature control knob as well. You don't just put the cable back on because it will just happen again. Find the heater valve and lube it, it might be getting sticky causing it to pop out...that's what we have to do on this car.Comment
