    ecu question

I have narrowed down a charging system issue to a faulty ecu. I'm pretty sure I need to buy a new one and wanted to know what I can replace it with. I don't know anything about the ecu aspect of our cars, but want to! I'm not sure if one model is a better platform over another or if they are all the same. I'd like to be able to monitor(if it's possible) vitals to dial in how the car runs.

just to get this out, i have searched for over two hours on google, AT, HS, & CB7T ... and cannot find a list of what ecu's will work in the cb7's; specifically 92 DX 5spd. I'm clueless as to what my choices are and also what the differences are between them. If someone could point me in the right direction or just rattle off a list, that would be great. sorry for the rant and my ignorance, but i DO want to learn!

There are 3 things that are responsible for your charging system on your accord. Alternator, Battery, and the cables in between. All of these are physical and mechanical. Unless the ECU is keeping the car on after you turn it off or something, the ECU has nothing to do with our charging system. The ECU only monitors fuel and ignition based on sensory data coming from the engine.

Check these things over. Look for corrosion in these cars.

    Engine and Chassis grounds
    Battery Voltage
    Alternator Voltage
    Cable connections.

P.S. come back more often you have some learning to do.

What he said, but to answer your question you can use any 90-93 accord ecu that u can get your hands on. The ecu is called the PT3 but u can also use the PT6.

I'm not really getting a dead battery, it's more low voltage with car running. I installed a voltmeter below the radio and i've been getting really spiratic readings; with the a/c on full, the car will be at 11.5-12.5v at idle then for no reason jump to 14v after awhile ... my headlights dim when i step on the brake ... with low voltage the car tends to run kinda rough too(lag, rough idle ...). So, i've looked at schematics to see what components might be faulty ... i've come to 3 - alternator, ECU, ELD. I've tested the ELD according to the Haynes Manual, it checks out. My alternator has issues. I get no Batt light on the dash(i changed the bulb with a working one, still nothing), that's why i think it might be the ECU. *more ranting*

        P.S. - I've been on CB7Tuner since '03! - so thanks for playing

acclipseh23 is right tho, the ecu doesn't control voltage or any part of the charging system. Scratch it off the list, take the car to an auto parts store and have them test the alternator.

sounds like a voltage regulator problem.
and im 99 percent sure that it is built into the back of the alternator.
check the voltage regulator to the specs with a test light/voltmeter in the haynes manual.

I had a similar problem when i got a code 1 i think it was, said the ecu was faulty, ended up just being a connection problem, so i would check those, however if you have an extra ecu available try swapping that to see if it helps
