might be the battery...take the battery to like auto zone to get it checked it out...i dont think its the alternator since the car doesnt die...might be the battery

          I have the same "problem"

Happens in my parents brand new CTS...

          Not something to worry about.

If it didn't happen before and all of a sudden it is, then he is having a problem.

LEXcb7, how old is your battery? When was the last time you replaced the alternator, if at all?

thx for all the replies, I dont know how old the battery is and i dont think the alternator has ever been changed and plus theres some oil dat spilled on the alternator, so i dont know how much that affected it...im gonna go buy a voltmeter to check if the voltages are right

and the battery light does not come on..but i wanna try and fix it before it becomes worsei

Good idea with the multimeter... I had forgotten to tell you to check the normal battery voltage, and system voltage when charging at idle, and higher rpms. Record those numbers and post them up.

I juss checked...the battery alone is at is just a bit above 10 volts...the car idling its around 13.5 and its the same once i turn stuff on in my car.

Well there you go. Try replacing the battery first... a good battery should read between 12 and 13 volts under no load, and no charging...

Also, while idling, you should see at least 14 volts, if not 14.5. If the running voltage doesn't improve after replacing the battery, then it's time to put in a new alternator. Try just a new battery though first.
