    Exhaust install Headaches

Well i went to meineke this morning same meineke ive had install several performance exhausts on other cars. This time though the owner was there along with the guy i usually work with. He says its gonna be $300 to install my new cat, muffler and 2.25" piping. I say no way cause i had the same thing done on my last car there and they only charged me half that. Now i dont know what to do cause im certainly not going back there again. Where do you guys get honest exhaust work done?

Did you even gasket your car in the first place Wayne?

The best place I'd think for exhaust work would be a local independent shop. Places such as Midas and Meineke will charge way more, especially if they think they'll get away with it.

Just grab the phone book and see all the shops listed under muffler and exhaust and go from there. Any reputable shop should be able to give you a run down of the costs associated with a custom exhaust.

At Triple A exhaust. No association with AAA, but Id recommend that shop if theres one near you.

he's exactly right. ask around about local mom&pop shops. they usually do the best work and give you the best deal. chains want to get you in and out, the little indy shop take their time and do it right. ive gone to a local guy 4 times and ive always left completely satisfied.

i'm assuming you are talking about an exhaust that has to be welded on and made. it is not a "bolt-on" affair correct? if it was then i say you should do it yourself.

i usually see about $160 for everything but a cat and a resonator. $160 includes piping and a muffler (flowmaster) installed after the stock cat. $300 is rape!

Im using my own N1 knockoff muffler. All i need is piping from cat back.
