Squeaking Belt Squeals Only When A/C Is On

I recently have developed a problem when I turn on the A/C. There is a loud squealing sound that only comes on when the air conditioning is engaged but then stops after 5 minutes. But then when the electric fans kick in, it starts squealing again. It stops if I start cruising on the highway. Very strange.

I originally thought of loose belt, so I tightened it to within 1/2 inch of depression play. But still squeals. The belts were replaced about 13K miles ago. Any thoughts?

    Bearings in the pulley probably.

if ur belt keeps becoming loose and u just keep tighting it then all ur going to do is stretch the belt and break on u. but yes tighten it a little more and if it doesnt go away it probably is ur pulley bearing.

If you tighten the belt too much you can wear out the bearings on the compressor and the front main bearing on on the crankshaft.

Speaking from having the exact same problem, you have to tighten the belts, they squeel usually because they are loose. Push down on them, there should be less than 1/4 inch of movement. Belt dressing makes it worse, you need to tighten. If that does not fix for some reason, it is your alternator most likely.

Mine squeaks for less than half a second when the AC kicks on, then goes away. It's how I know the AC is really working

Its mostlikely is a loose belt. If it only makes noise every now and then when you accelerate and stuff then I would try tightening the belt first.

Watch your pulleys to see if they wobble while the engine is running. I'd start with tightening down the accessory belts first, however.

Not only that i think you need the refrigerator oil that you put in before the a/c sometimes it needs some lubrication. The belts too or maybe its not torqued down tight enough aswell hope this helps.
