    power steering cutting out

It will only do it when the engine is at or close to idle. Once it gets over about 1,000 RPM, the power steering comes back on, but for parking or something, it's really annoying. I'll put the clutch in and swing in to the spot, and in the middle I've got to strong-arm it to get it to finish the turn in. Ideas?

check your fluid first.. top off if needed.. otherwise your pump just might be going to crap and only working well when its spinning faster..

The fluid is full, I took the back plate off of the pump because I was going to paint that in contrast with the body to match what I did with the alternator (ran out though, so it's all black) and I didn't refill the pump with fluid which I figured would give it a dry start, I didn't think about air lock until afterward, when I figured if that were the case then it would cut out when it felt like it, but alright, if that would only do it then, that's some good news because I would almost certainly blame it on that (since all the internals of the pump are fine, I opened it again and checked afterward, thinking something must have moved, but nothing had). So is there a way I have to bleed it out or what?

i notice my PS needing top off much more frequently then my other cars.. but it seems okay? could the pump be going out? or is it just leaks? or could it just be natural?

        anyhow thanks.

Fishyman, you definitely have a leak. Check around th rack and rear crossmember because it always seem to happen there. Another good place to check is the reservoir itself.

Jumpman83, you need some PS system bleeding. thats is why your PS cuts on and off.

I am not 100 percent sure so consult someone on this. I am thinking that the way to get air out the system is to run the car with the power steering reservoirs cap off.

But don't take my word for it because I don't know that for sure.

i thought i read somewhere to bleed the system, you turn the steering wheel all the way to one side with the car running (in park of course or neutral) and hold for about 10 seconds then turn all the way to the other side and hold for ten seconds.

to bleed the system, just turn the steering wheel from lock to lock multiple times.... like the wheel all the way to the left, then all the way to the right, repeat as many times as you like...... the engine has to be running obviously... but yea thats how i did it on my silver 91 when i swapped the pump out and topped it off. didnt seem to matter if the cap was on or not, i did it with the cap on...

My PS dies at the end of decreasing-speed slaloms. Yes this is a serious question. The last cone I've had to wrestle the steering wheel over.
Another symptom is I topped it off, then after a few weeks I noticed that there was PS fluid around the reservoir.
Watching someone quickly turn the wheel from side to side a few times, I saw the PS fluid rise up and spill out onto the engine bay. Any idea what could cause it to be like this? Brothers 1993 EXs PS feels effortless. Why is mine horrible?

I just wanted to throw my .02 in on this conversation. In case you guys didn't know, you have to use OEM power steering fluid only. This is because honda, in their infinite wisdom, decided to have mineral spirits in their PS fluid. They were and still are the only company to do that.
