    a/c makes me lose power....WHY!?

I'll turn my a/c on in my 93 dx and I'll lose soo much power and can't figure out why. I know the a/c will draw power, but I lose alot of power in acceleration. I'll be accelerating and the car will just bog and shake....and If I'm cruising you can feel the car have drag at some points.

Why is it acting this way?

My other cb7 is fine when I turn the a/c on.

93 dx with a/c? sure its a dx? and 2ndly the a/c draws power like u said wich makes power loss....thats why people remove it for a lslight power gain...oyu basically answerd your own question.

obviously you will lose a bit of power when the a/c is on, its common sense.. and yes, the DXs had an option for a/c.. it wasnt guaranteed to not have a/c just because it is a DX..

okay...then tell me why both my cars act different with the a/c on?

my 92 lx runs fine with the a/c on...no bogging or shaking
then my 93 dx runs like crap with the a/c on (it's not a little power loss)

Lots of base model cars in the '90s don't have AC. So you can buy the same car cheaper if you don't need AC.

there is prolly a wiring problem. If the A/C system wasn't installed correctly at the dealer, they might have screwed up the communication between the A/C system and the ECU. If the ECU doesn't know when the compressor is about to engage, it won't know to adjust the idle or to enrich the air/fuel mixture. The ECU MUST know when the A/C is on because it does several things to compensate for the extra load on the engine which would explain the vibration and the noticable reduction in power when it engages.

since the DX didn't come with A/C from the factory, I would try to get the installation instructions and make sure the wiring is okay.

Juice cracks me up sometimes with these posts. Its true, but the way he says it. For anyone who doesn't know why I think its funny just read his sig.

Sounds like it could be a problem but after so many years you know at least one or two times some crackhead mechanic put his hands on the car. The A/C puts load on the engine thus the engine's will idle rougher. Xaxis hit the nail on the head to me, check out your connections.

I'll check my connections tomorrow. What you said makes sense and I can see why it would affect the car soo much. Thanks

learn somethin new...but you have to choose not to have ac...from that guys post it sounded like a dx couldnt have ac...which didnt make sense to me
