    adjusting valves.

okay i need help w/ adjusting valves.

my cam has the UP inwards? meaning i can see it w/ valve cover on and i can't get the cam cover off. so i have to go by that? am i doomed? it isn't how the original manual shows, the UP pointing towards outside not inside. but maybe its 2 sided?

also my up mark on the cam gear doesn't exactly point 12 o clock, when the time mark is at the - has. i've already rotated it a couple time VIA PS method.. if only i could get the cam cover out, but one of the nutz is bothering me..

care to help? btw my feeler guages aren't EXACTLy as that of the manual. they are kinda off..

    thanks

i've begun doing 1 and 3 already.. tomrow the rest. it seems okay, adjust w/ wrench and driver. and cking the feel. i mean the instructions say +/- so i think im okay. it goes in easy w/ slight drag. the time i feel i really have to adjust is when u can't push the feeler guage in. that means u gotta loosen and etc..

i hope i did it correct.. oh well we'll see. then start up, rev and let it idle...

i torqued down rocker already. but damn 1 of the bolts chirped and broek. the uselss one on the side near dizzy.. i was using torque wrench and was getting it at about 16lb/ft or so. the beam keep showing around 15lb/ft as i went in the finishing motion, then it just stnapped.

is that how ur supposed to torque?. as u go in motion the reading should be the SPECIFIED one, then u just release b4 it goes pass ur reading?? i find it hard for thse type of bolts as if u attempt to go pass 20 to experiment its gonna snap b4 doing so..

well for me when I torque down bolts, its just kinda a feel you develop I guess cause ive been working with bolts and stuff my whole life and my dad taught me a ton, you just develop a certain unspeakable feeling working with metal. When im torqueing I will start turning it and then as the torque increases i slow down without stopping, listening, feeling, etc, for any weird noise or feeling, plus the size of the bolt to understand when enough is.

well, there is only one way to find out if you did them righ tor not...listening for the valve tick when you complete the whole thing. as long as you did them to spec, the rest of the way is cake.

guys now my car won't start. i have known the starter was gonna kinda go, but what could it be?

maybe it isn't TDC anymore? or dizzy plugs/wire wrong?

                      N- 4
                      W-3
                      E - 2
                      S - 1

4,3,2,1 - plug holes left to right. they are ngk blue so i am sure they are in order. just at the dizzy maybe i messed up. but still i wrote it down prior.

what else could it be? it turns, just won't start up. got lights.

                      thank.s

okay i got my plugs in wrong order grr.. anyhow it fired up and it ticked...

it sounded different and odd. i guess this means my valves are a bit too loose??? meaning i have to redo them all?? my cam cover is toling w/ me as it can't be read w/ the mark up at 12 o clock straight. i can't get cam cover off.

do u guys suggest i do it 1 at a time? meaning, first do 1st set of intake, exhaust, then move to 2nd 3rd 4th? i feel i loosened them a bit too much, any help appreaciated. when the cam goes to 180 is when I can't really tell if im at the exact 180 or not as im looking in from the rocker assembly, not outside. does this matter?

i also broke one of the bolts, they are near dizzy, i'll try take a look and take those outs..

thanks again.. any ideas please help.

do u got a stock cam or aftermartket one? On the stock cam when the arrow points up (looking at the backside) the sidie should have little ticks that lines up with the head. heres the manual http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/AccordManual/400/5-14.pdf

Good luck with it!! It feels good after I did mine but now it sounds a bit loose too, its better than too tight though.

Just wondering, was urs very tight? Mine sure was

^ Not in that way guys lol
