    No Fourth Gear!

As I was driving to work today, it was raining, (1st time with my H22) so I started to burn out in 1st, shifted to 2nd, then went to third and must have missed the gear slot (bad grinding sound). I let the RPMs drop and slid it into third but when I went to shift into fourth I couldnt. I let the RPMs drop again and still wouldnt let me shift into fourth. I tried rev matching, nothing, I got to work and shut my car off, still no fourth. I can go into every other gear but fourth. It feels like it is blocked off or something. Plllease someone help!

Broken gear linkage? The same thing happened to my friends mom's 90 Accord. Except she can't shift into 5th!

I have it narrowed down to either a synchro or the shifting fork for 3rd and fourth gear. I believe I bent the fork, yes I know I was banging gears a little too hard! Now I am on the task of rebuilding the whole tranny.

My gut feeling tells me its the shift fork. But how is shifting in the other gears?

It shifts fine in other gears, though I think my third gear synchro is now going as well (grinding), or it could also be the result of a bent fork.

If you are thinking about rebuilding the tranny, don't. Save a bit of money and just get a used tranny from one of the members here or a local junkyard

Yea I was going to pencil that out tomorrow, see if what would be cheaper. My neighbor is a honda mechanic and said if I unbolted the tranny from the block that he could get the parts to rebuild it, but he neglected to mention the price. How much will a used H22 tranny run? Will a JDM H22 tranny fit on the USDM H22A4? I want LSD!

Ahh, I see why you wanted to rebuild now.

And yes, the H22 tranny will bolt right up no problem
