    gas made me faster*confused*

i read earlier that when you put unleaded plus or premium in our car it doesnt make a difference in our cars.

so i pumped 5 dollars of premium, it ran slightly better than the unleaded i usually put, then after driving maybe 10 miles i pump in 3 dollars of plus and this really made the car run alot smoother and faster than the unleaded and the plus.

before my homebois civic slowly pulled on me when we raced from a roll in second gear.

then i raced him today *with a mixture of premium and unleaded* and i pulled on him like nothing

the power band is stronger on my car, before it dropped at about 5800 rpm but i brought it up to 6000 without any notice of a dropping powerband

could it be something was wrong with my motor? or something else

it's a f22a6 with intake, ngk wires, ngk platinum plugs, running synthetic high rpm blend tranny oil, air breather, slightly ported stock header, slightly ported dual runners, exhaust, air breather
motor has 198xxx miles and runs just like new

could it be that the gas brought the hidden ponies that went away through out the life? or what, and there was a noticable amount of torque increase

I noticed that too with my f22a1. 87 octane was not quite as good as 93 octane for some reason. The owners manual states the stock engine can run on 86 octane...weird.

in some cars you can tell a difference, but its mainly cheaper to run 87 oppose to 93, thats why its able to burn the 87... as i read on advance auto parts as some speculate, its not really the gas that gives u the better gas mileage its YOUR driving technique

Just using 89 can make a noticible difference in my car. But not all gas is equal. I've had the best performance from 87 Sunoco gas. exxon's 87 isn't that great and neither is citgo's or marathon's. I'm from Ohio so I don't know what gas stations you guys have out there...

Nothing wrong (that I can tell) with Chevron gas.

By saying it makes you faster. Do you mean your car feels like it has more power? I have read an article in SCC that states that the octane rating of gasoline in no way increases the power output of an engine. However, using a higher octane, allows you to tune your car to make added power (i.e. advancing timing, increasing compression) without detonation.

it feels more alive and i do feel more power, my friends also noticed it when they road in my car, i don't think it added more horsepower i just think it brought back some of the old horsepower i used to have

This is all in your head guys..... The higher the octane, the slower the mixture burns. The only reason you have to run higher octane is for higher compression engines or boost applications. The higher the compression ratio and combustion chamber pressure, the more prone the engine is to pre-detonation, so the higher octane allows the fuel mixture to burn slower to resist detonation. These engines however run just fine with 87...actually they seem to run a little bit better. So unless you just like throwing your money away, there is absolutely no reason to run anything higher than 87 octane in a naturally aspirated F22.

i guess it is different w/ all cars and gas stations but i do feel that my car does have a bit mroe power, warms up faster but doesnt do as well in terms of gas mileage on 91

i just put in 87 because i usually dont need to rev it up or romp on it that much and im cheap.

It could just be all the additives in the premium gas helped clean out some of the gunk in your fuel system which might help the engine run better. Just my guess.

as dj justice said it helps clean all the carbon out of ur engine with all of the detergents and cleanin agents in the gas. i personally use 89 but i need to do a tune up and clean out my egr ports.
