Has anyone ever used Enviro-Safe Refrigerant

I am going nuts trying to locate some R-12 for my 89 LX-i. I stumbled on this stuff called Enviro-Safe. It states that it is compatible with R-12 and blows colder. Has anyone ever tried it?

I have 4 cans of R12 for sale if you can fax me proof of EPA certification. As I'm sure you know, R12 is not cheap. I haven't used the Enviro-safe stuff, but honestly, I'd suggest going ahead and converting it to R134. It's cheaper, readily available, doesn't require EPA certification and is much more environment friendly than the R12. The conversion kit costs about $10 and only invovles changing the fittings. R134 is currently about $8 a can (was $3 a can a few months ago) and R12 averages $25-35 a can. Both R12 and R134 are going up in cost so I'd go ahead get the R134. You do not need to make any other A/C system part changes to make R134 work in our cars (unless something was broken or leaking to begin with). I'd suggest going ahead and replacing the dryer while your at it since these just naturally "go bad" once the A/C lines are cracked and exposed to outside air for more than 15 min. The downside is that it only cools about 85% as well as R12....at the same time, the system takes about 85% less R134 than it would R12. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. As much as I hate A/C, I happen to be very knowledgable in this field.

Didn't you mean to say that it you can fill the system 85% full with R134a? In other words, you use 15% less R134a to fill the system on a retrofit.

Yes that is what he means. Since R-134a has higher head pressures than R-12, it is suggested to add 85% of the original freon capacity.
