Tranny Fluid

I am about to drop in a JDM auto tranny into my 90 lx. People say that I should use Honda ATF but that shit is like $6 a quart here. I can get full synthetic for uder $6 a quart. It is freakin hot down here in south Texas so I am installing an external B&M cooler for the tranny. Question is, since this tranny I just got is completely drained of fluid, what should I use? I will probably just get the synthetic as I have used that in all my cars and it always helps with the heat and the traffic shifting. Any recommendations?

For real everyone and almost EVERYONE, will tell u HONDA ATF for honda trannys.

i switched to honda atf, and i COULD feel the difference. smooth shifts.
my other civic downshifted hard, but w/ honda atf, it went away BIG TIME.

there is definitely a difference in honda atf compared to other brands.. my car was used as a training device for tranny flushes at jiffy lube when i worked there.. my car actually shifted more rough after it was flushed.. about a week later, i drain and filled my tranny and put honda atf back in it and it shifted quite a bit smoother..

Nothing else.. Honda ATF!
Thats what I am using it right now.
My Accord shift really smooth!

Late model Acuras use the same Honda ATF. The newer ones most likely have a separate fluid due to transmission differences. Just get Honda ATF, its a very small price to pay to prevent tranny troubles.

i think i need to change my tranny fluid or the tranny... i put it ont he dyno and ont he second pull they said they thinbk the torque converter started slipping and they recomended to change the fluid and get a cooler.. but are they are to install?

changing fluid won't hurt, but many believe that if it starts to slip and u get new fluid its gonna kill it faster...

i have 228k miles. how will changing the fluid kill it faster wont it just make it work better? i purchased a cooler

i'll let someone else explain it. as im just going by what people are telling me.

they said that if u FLUSH ur car at such a high mileage with it slippping it will die faster cuz the stuff inside the car (prior) is what's holding the trans together..

others have said ATF changing will be the same, meaning it'll make trans slip even more as the particles inside it are holding the slipping trans.

again that's just what is said around here and some other places. for me, i believe that if ur trans is slipping ur gonna need to replace anyhow, but the fact the changing ATF will help (flush/drain) preserve it accordingly cuz after all it is a lubricant..

it was on the dyno i havent been able to recreate it.. they said it must have just gotten hot and that they think the torque converter was slipping

i have a small question. if i do this drain/fill for the tranny. will i have to do it again a few miles down the road because of the crap that is in the cooler lines? just a lil worried. want it to last an even longer time.

i have 230k on mine i was so scared to a drain and flush and then one day i did it and it has never been better ,DO NOT DO A FLUSH U WILL SCREW IT UP VERY BADDLY DO A DRAIN AND FILL 2.5 QUARTS OF HONDA ATF ITS WORTH THE MONEY
