Urgent need help, h23 tranny no reverse.
i was driving home tonight and when i got in my driveway, and went to put my car in reverse. it wouldn't go in gear, can someone tell me whats going on. and one time i got in in but when let off the clutch, it grinded and popped out of gear? WTF

it just gets jammed and doesnt want to go into reverse.....prelude trannies are notorious for this....did you happen to mis-shift in 3rd or 5th? i lost reverse twice so far...each time i thought i lost it for good.
here is what i did... with the clutch half depressed, slowly give it gas and try pushing it into reverse...it'll grind and you wont like the sound of it but it should pop in...might as well try it cuz your tranny is pretty much done unless you want to rip it apart and replace the shift fork ...no sychros for 1st or reverse...but once you get reverse back make sure you drive some distance in reverse...then put it in first and drive forward...baby the car for a lil while and eventually reverse should work like it normally did. this worked for me twice ill look for the thread on honda-tech it was more descriptive -

i couldnt find the thread but if you check out honda-tech and search "reverse" in the "prelude" forum hundreds of reverse threads will pop up...dont worry you're not the only person that is going thru this experience its pretty common....there should be alot of info mayb you'll find the thread i was talking about. good luck
P.s. its going to make an awful grinding sound and your going to hate it...but once its in reverse you should be good to go...if it gets stuck in reverse do the same trick to get it out...this also happend to meComment

well i just drove my car around town just babying the car...shifting carefully at 3000rpms....just normal driving, i also went in reverse drove 10 ft put it in first drove 10 feet and repeated.....eventually reverse went back to normal...i cant explain it just overtime the normal driving allowed it to go back to normalComment

the only code i'm gettin from the ecu is 23, the knock sensor code, but that only comes on when i get into like 3rd gear, and sometimes it doesn't come on.Boosted H22...Underway....Getting parts, and gaining knowledge....first thing to do is diy body work, and paint....H22 Swap should be doen by the end of this month if all goes right...Comment

The tranny is shifting good, but 5th gear grinds when its going in, and reverse is a little sticky, but it doesn't grind, just feels like it doesn't want to let the stick go.Boosted H22...Underway....Getting parts, and gaining knowledge....first thing to do is diy body work, and paint....H22 Swap should be doen by the end of this month if all goes right...Comment

yup same with me...when i go into 5th it grinds a lil...and reverse is starting to act up again...i might try to put new tranny fluid in maybe some syncromesh will help a lilComment

tranny just drain/refill w/ HONDA OEM fluid
ENGINE: just drain, use a good oil filter and syn
btw, what do u mean by 3rd or 5th misshift? im jsut curious. cuz i understand 5-4 or 5-2 that type of thing

by mis shift i mean grinding 3rd or 5th gear....not 3rd TO 5th..i messed up while shifting into 3rd gear and thats how i lost reverse...just lazy...Comment
