    Throttle Problem

Ok, since God hates me and so forth.. my car decides to start acting like a fucking piece of shit today.

Here's the problem. It ran fine this morning on my way to work, which was at 9:30am.

I get off work and when I start the car, it's idling at like 2 grand for 20 minutes. Usually it goes down to about 700-800 after warming up.. but no it stays up there.

All night tonight when I was stuck in the Tampa traffic, it was idling at 1,100k when it was in gear and I had the brake pressed in. If I would throw it into neutral, then the idle would surge up to around 2, then keep doing the sporatic idle. Most of the night I had to keep pulling BACK on the pedal to keep the idle down.

What is my problem? It was running fine ever since I did the swap over a year ago.. then out of no where today the fucking throttle starts acting up and it was a bitch. I was stuck in traffic for over an hour, and it was a pain in the ass holding the pedal back.. jesus.

hmm weird it sounds by your description that your actual throttle is being held open or something, not related to your iacv or one of them shits

can i lube the throttle cable or something by the throttle body?

BustedLX, if you're reading this.. last year you adjusted something on the throttle on my f22 motor when i came to your place. i forget what he sprayed on it, but the car ran perfectly after he touched it.

hey adam, check yoru throttle plate and see if its closed, or if its dirty and bein held open. Is the throttle rotor rotated all the way clockwise?

            its your fast idle valve!

he adjusted the wax plunger on your fast idle valve. it lets additional air bypass the throttle plate, mainly for warm up function. on the 90-93 models its on the front of the upper intake manifold by pcv hose return into intake manifold. take screw off and use flathead to tighten it down.

If holding the pedal back helps, then your problem is with the throttle cable. Take a look and see if anythying is out of place.

i started the car this morning and it was fine.. but after driving around for about 3 hours (in 100° weather) it would idle high when i would put it in neutral.

when i put the car in park, it jumps up to about 1,500 then fluxuates with the sporatic idle problem. when i start the car back up.. its fine.

so when its warmed up it idles a little high.. wtf is my problem? lol we adjusted the idle 2 weeks ago and since then its been acting up. im guessin the iacv?

if your idle problem is dureing warm-up most likely fast idle valve..if its after your car is wamred-up then it most likely you eacv. just make you your not leaking coolant or a spark plug boot is loose or something else.

throttle plate is staying open.... that allowes more air in the system....
                      or vacume line.....
did u mess with the throttle cable by any chance????

OKay so lets see either your throttle plate is dirty and stuck open. Or from the jumpy idle your fitv is dirty an dneeds to be cleaned or you may have to bleed your coolant some and wind the wax plunger back in the fitv and clean out the iacv too. I wouldnt mess with the idle thing on the vacuum part of the throttlebody that messes with the vacuum though. Just clean out the fitv and the iacv and see waht happens and you still have to bleed the coolant some when you open the fitv up so do that too. Good luck.

i talked to a friend and he said i may need a new throttle line. sometimes i have to pull back on the pedal, and sometimes i don't.

there is that little bracket that holds the line (attached to the intake manifold I believe) and if i put it in there, the car idles at like 3k.. and then goes down to 400 sometimes.

this is odd.. i need to check into this more before my 1,300 road trip next week.
