    Check engine light HELP!! PLEASE.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok. My check engine light would go on about once a month(for last year or so) but just for a split second. It would only happen around a certain turn, and when i was going very fast(between 40-50 around sharp turn). the light would just FLASH on for a second, and then dissapear.

Just tonigh, while testing my abs system(just changed abs reservoir) i did a very hard break from about 75 mph. When i did this my check engine light came ON AND STAYED ON. Being caught up in the moment(thinking like a total f'ing idiot!) i pulled over and turned off the car, and restarted. Of course the light stayed off.

(if i were smart i would have simply checked the code before turning the car off, but i'm a dumbass, and now i'm freeking out because i have no clue as to what is doing this)

So do you guys have any clue as to why my light goes on during sharp turns/brakes?

    THANKS A BUNCH GUYS>

um you should jump the CEL harness and tell us the code first...

its under glove compartment on the passanger side... its blue... just stick one side of the paper clip in one of the holes, and the other side of the paper clip in the other hole in the connector.... and get back to us...

haha after that count the number of times the check engine light turns on...

before u jump it....make sur ethe car is off then start it
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

HA HA maple. If your serious, the anser is NO. They mean that you "jump" the conector by putting a paper clip in both sides of the connector. Then the computer will throw the "code" that tells you whats wrong.

To others- I thought that the check engine light had to be ON when i get the code? thats why i felt so stupid for turning the car off and turning it back on!

Ok. So i find the blue clip.......... Do i put the paper clip in the connector while the car is off, and then start it? Or do i start the car and THEN put the clip in the connector?

thanks a TON for the quick replies.

yea, put the clip in and turn the key to 'on' i believe it is. dont actually start the engine, but a click before that. and the codes wont erase until you reset the ecu.

if its a single digit code, it will flash quickly a bunch of times, just count them. if its double, like 21... it have two long flashes followed by one quick, then a pause and repeat.

OK. i just jumped the green wire with the white stripe, with the orange wire.

When i turned the car to acc. the cel light would flash ONCE VERY QUICKLY. Then there would be a 10 second break, and it would do the SAME THING.

However, the abs light would also flicker on/ off intermitently. When i disconnect the two wires, the abs light stays on.

                  Whats the deal!??

First- is my o2 sensor DYING or is it just a faulty connection? I say faulty connection because the light CEL only FLICKERED on when i put my car practically sideways at 50 mph. (and then once during extreme breaking).

Second- whats up with the abs light?

THANKS A TON YOU GUYS- YOUR A WORLD OF RELIEF!

i tell u what u can do, check the o2sensor of corse
but also check the connection the the gauges, i mean to the cluster.

cause i kno my oil light would come on, i thought it was because i had low oil pressure and whatever, but then i notice it only did it if i turned hard or hit bumps in the road a certain way.

then after a while of doing this and the light would come on i would hit the top of the dash then the light would go off. then to test the connection, instead of pullin the whole thing apart i just turn the key to the on position (not to start the car just to make the oil, check engine, baterry and brake lights lite up) then hit the top of the dash. if some or one of the lights go off u kno u have a bad connection somewhere. when i did this the oil light would pop on, then i hit it again and it would go off and another light would might go out then i hit it again and it pop back on.
when we kno all the lights suppose to stay on.
no i have the situation str8, all lights fuction right.

but check that also, if u change the gauges like most of us have (white face gauges) then this is gona happen eventually

                      hey, not a bad idea.

                      thanks a lot man!

                      Just out of curiosity.....

If it was just a connector, the CEL SHOULDN'T come on.... should it? I mean, it shouldn't throw a code, right?

                      thanks again for your time.

yeah, if ur throwing a code, then somethings up.
just check u ECU, pull the carpet back at the top of the passenger side and check the ECU light, if its dark then ur fine but if its blinking (RED) then do the counts, cause ur running codes.

                        short blinks is 1
                        long blink is 10

OK. When i jumped the two wires under the dash, i was looking to see how many times the check engine light flashed on the dash.

Is that correct? Or should i have been looking at the computer? cause the computer light was NOT flashing, but the dash CEL would flash once real fast every ten seconds.

yeah u can do both, but just like when u jump it and the check engine light flashes the code, the computer also does it at the same time, the computer will flash it even with the car running....like mine

i need to change my 02sensor so my check engine light is on, so when i start the car and drive it i can look right at the ECU and the red lights blinking the code.

either way works but i think the best way it to check the ecu lite because like i said u dotn kno if the engines lights on because of a bad connect or whatever.
but checking the light on the ecu, u kno for sure the ecu's running a code
