can a broken 02 sensor slow u down

needed to ask this because i read a post for the 1/4 mile time on another forum and a guy was statig his time and he blamed his slow time on a broken 02 sensor.

ive had a broken 02sensor for like a year now and having changed it because i have a str8 pipe instead of a cat converter.
so i figured i really dont need it to work or not....

    m i wrong?
    thanks

Someone correct me if im wrong but i believe it does slow you down. The ecu would need the input from the sensor to distribute air and fuel correctly.

the o2 sensor sends a signal to the ecu conserning the amount of fuel and air in the exhaust gas so yes it can greatly effect 1/4 mile times not to mention bad gas mileage and possibly a melted piston if the engine leans out too much

        ok..
im a go out and change it tomorrow, i have new one but was just holdin on to it, now that i kno that, best to change it
my fuel pressures reading 40psi so im ok but thats probably why i have to keep adjusting it back, because the sensors sendng out a broken signal

        thanks

A broken or disconnected O2 sensor causes the ECU to default to running rich. That means that you're not likely to do damage like melting a piston, but it will definitely slow you down.

your car will run a little bit like crap and pretty much runnin rich thing is going to be on key with that. BUt my o2 code kept on goin off cause of the VAFC I had on my car i didnt dyno it and set the correct settings for vtec so i took the shit off till i get it done.

Hell i had to lean my wot to 38 it was runnin so rich cause i have that 255 intake fuel pump and the billet fpr runnin no cat and straight piping go figure

ok, thats why when i got my car fixed it was like at 60psi (had just got a adjustable fpr with gauge so we knew)
and now the pressure rises over time so like every week or so i have to drop it bac down to 38-40psi.

im goin out to change it today, thanks guys for the help

nope, this was with stock fpr, and the broken 02sensor.

so once i got my car fixed 2 months ago i put the adjustable fpr with gauge on it and it read 60psi, so we was like WTF!!
so we droped it to 38-40psi

but now i see having a broken 02 sensor raises the fuel pressure.

still couldnt fix it tho, damn o2sensor was like rusted in there, i worked on it for like 3 hours with teh tool.
but i have a new down pipe header part so im a just put that on and put the new 02 in that, so basically pull the ol and place the new. hopefully this weekend coming

sorry sorry, the ecu would send itself into "limp" mode and run rich to prevent detonation sorry sorry, it slipped my mind. I didn't know u knew about this forum pat, i was gonna bring u over here cause they have alot of good info and beyond noobie questions

i know there are kits to bypass the o2 sensor..
ive seen em around.. and talked about..
simulates a o2 signal.. a good a/f ratio.. id imagine.. so u dont have to run it period..
but dont know were to look for these..
but yeh get it replaced and u will see ur mpg go up and a tad bit in performance
