Yep, I've never in my life bought a new main relay, I've always just resoldered them....works great.

I've done quite a few Honda relays now as well (resoldering) and so far, I have not had any that needed to be redone. I already have everything I need but even if I did have to buy a new soldering gun and solder, it's still only $10. And if you solder it well and a bit more beefed up, it shouldn't crack like the original so it'll last alot longer.

what exactly breaks inside the relay? does a contact come loose? do one of the pads come undone? my relay is starting to crap out on me and i would love to fix this problem. i love to solder stuff up. i just need to know what to solder. thanks in advance!

Basically, you need to resolder everything LOL. When you open it up, you'll see a whole bunch of solder joints on the one side of the circuit board (or whatever it's called..). I find some will be cracked, some starting to crack, and others perfectly fine (visually) but you never know so I redo every one of them.

woot. its been replaced. It was unbeleivably hard because of
                    1) not having right tools
                    2) wierd angle and not remmembering which way to turn to loosen
                    3) power tools are your friends and i don't have any.

edit: in fairness, those two cruise control bolts are a bitch to remove but after that, its ridicously easy.

                        power tools?

the main problems with me was the sharp pieces of metal up there, the door sill digging into my back and hand losing blood circulation.

lol, i was some wierd ass positions while trying to loosen those screws. Just imagine a 19yr old male with driver seat leaning back with bare legs in the air and head at the pedals. Look like a freaky porno in the making. anyways, i got it done. now time will tell if it was worth it. btw, the old main relay smells roasted. seriously, it has that burnt eletronic smell to it so atleast it was worth to replace.

edit, oh, the soldier joints are surrounded by burnt brown silicone or whateva that is.

it is worth it, for me at least. never had the no fire cranking after replacing it.

What are exactly the symptoms of the main relay going?
