    engine cuts off..

    just had a question for you guys to see if anyone has experienced this before. whenever i'm driving around in a certain gear and hit about 7k (h22), the tach starts getting a BIT jumpy and then all of a sudden it feels like i hit a speed governor or something... the power just shuts off for a second and the revs drop. there's a loud noise and vibration that i can feel when this happens. so far, its happened in both 3rd and 4th gear. anyone know what the problem might be?

    Ignition.... Sounds like your are dropping a cylinder. Check your plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. It could also be a coil or ignitor but check the easiest (cheapest) things first.

      no, i have a 5 speed jdm h22 transmission now.. and i'm running a p05 (?) ecu that bustedlx chipped for me actually.. p28 chip. but it does feel exactly like a fuel cut off.

        I would venture to reason it's an ignition problem because you mention the problem takes place in 3rd and 4th gear when the engine is under the most load, which is when there is the most spark and it is most likely to jump to ground.

        The chip you are running is the same program running on a few other members vehicles so I would assume that's not the problem. Check the other things first if they check out ok then we'll take the next step.

          ok, i just tried out the p13 ecu and it's still happening with that one. BUT... it happens earlier.. around 6,400 rpm... because i think the ECU is running in safe mode because of my CELs (knock sensor being one of them) and therefore bumps the rev limiter down in that particular mode. so.. it really does seem to be a rev limiter.. thats exactly what it feels like... just more sudden and not really bouncing, maybe because of my lightweight flywheel which doesn't hold the revs like a normal flywheel would. but my question is: why is the rev limiter kicking in so early on the ECU from you jose? could you have possibly left the stock rev limiter/fuel cut off on there somehow?

          if you don't think this is the rev limiter, what else could it be? are there any other electrical problems that would cause the rev limiter to engage early?

          *also.. i found out its happening in all 5 gears.

                      just thought i'd let you guys know what the problem was.. incase anyone else ever experiences this. although, the only ones who will most likely have this problem are the swapped h22 guys.

                      i put a jumper wire in the plug that goes to the external coil on the f22 since the h22 is internally coiled. and the jumper basically circulates the electrical current back to the distributor... but it was loose lol... and everytime i would hit a high rpm or do some agressive driving... the intake and other parts around the plug/jumper would move and vibrate it to the point where it wasn't making connection.. and therefore the distributor wasn't firing correctly at that moment.. cutting off engine power. so i basically soldered the jumper in and now everything is good again

                      this might also be a problem with the f22 guys as well.. but not in the same way. just remember to check all of the wiring/electrical connections before spending money replacing parts and stuff. i also cleaned out my distributor which is a good thing to do also.

                          definately an electrical ignition problem, i would check the resistence on the coil and igniter,etc.
