    F22a6

I am blessed with a(n) F22a6 that came in the car and I just was reading last night about the intake. so today I unhooked the vac. line that controls the butterflies and have them ope all the time. I am looking for little stuff that I can do to make the car run better. so far it is kinta stock except transmission work. The butterflies being open all the time really help out the car in all the rpms. just trying to learn

And which line would that be exactly? I want to do it to mine too but is that even a good idea? Would it mess anything up?

Couldn't of been done without you guys

If your butterfly's are operational, then DO NOT unhook them to keep them open all the time. Honda designed them so they open up at a specific RPM in order for your car to have good high and low end power. Having them open all the time will kill your low end. Just leave them be.

man 2 people from both states i've lived in the most

yah and leave that vac line alone. Little things you can do is get better spark plugs (i like bosch plat +4) but i wouldn't get those without a better coil. (assuming you have an external coil) New wires.. Although this statement is NOT ALWAYS true, for your case it's true. Doesn't matter which wires you get, just get them bigger than 8.0mm and have radio noise suppression. Spiral core is best. I would recommend Accells 8.8mm racing wires. Others would go with MSD and still others perfer something else. Get what fits your budget...but remember Quality items now will save you more in the future.

Make sure all your sensors and small things are in good order.. Air filter is clean (i'd get a K&N) but you can find some full kits on ebay, but yet again you get what you pay for.

Things to check: all vac lines for leaks.. all wires going to sensors in good flexible order (no cracks or exposed wires)

        Belts in good order?

it's funny how if you just spend a little time and make sure your engine is in fine order how much better it performs. Start from their and then slowly but surely upgrade.

Has to be 5spd, has to be CHEAP. SUPER CHEAP. Will be in Indiana in February permanently and want a project car when I get settled in.

yeah just work on getting your car is tip top operating condition, this is like a mod in itself. Check the specs on everything and get a bottle of carb cleaner and go to work on all the hoses, passageways, etc. check your pcv valve and pipe to make sure its not clogged, as well as all the other little hoses, etc, and check the throttle body is clean and free of carbon, take off the IACV and clean the carbon buildup, take off your dizzy and check it for corrosion, check all fluids, make sure your tranny oil is topped up, make sure your front dogbone engine dampener mount is in working order,no oil leaks, buy a haynes manual,if your anything like me you received the car in a little less than top operating condition.

^^^^What he said. Now days people want to go buy the performance shit for their cars before they're running right and it just won't help all that much. If your stock ignition is old and weak, what good does it do to put more strain on it by adding more air(thus more fuel)??? Start out with the basics like Iridium plugs(ebay OBX like 24 for all 4), get some good wires like ^^^he said(MSD makes a great wire for our cars about 3 more hp at the wheels), if you have an external coil get the msd blaster ss coil(ebay $38), install new vacum lines(10 bucks local auto parts store), and do a ROTOR BUTTON in the dizzy(less than 10). Once this simple routine maintence is done, then start on the top side of the motor with the intake. Get what you can afford but the cheaper intakes on ebay are just that, CHEAP. The best power gains in my trials are from running some sort of tubing from the stock airbox hole to the front bumper and use a K&N. This gives a stock look but helps out more than ANY other intake I've seen yet. For piping you can go cheap and just buy some dryer hose from LOWES. Then go through the exhaust. Your header is great on the A6. Any bigger than 2.25 inches mandrel bent is TOO big and will cause losses in torque. Leave in some sort of cat(catco makes a great high flow cat), by putting in an Ebay raspinator you will loose precious torque. Once these simple bolt ons are completed, go to pulleys. Less than 150 on ebay for crank, alt, and ps. After this you're looking at major undertakings and money like larger tb, ported intake mani, ported head, nitrous or turbo and so on and so forth. Good luck!!!

Yes this is all very good advice, catch the motor up on all its maintnence to get it running properlly first.

As far as removing the vacuum line, I know you don't know any better, but DO NOT mess with the butterfly valves. If it was better for them to be open all the time don't you think Honda would have designed it that way in the first place? Doing this you WILL NOT gain any power, you will just kill your bottom end and lose a shitload of torque. This valve is already tuned to give you the most horsepower and torque at all RPMs. Trust me, Honda knows what they are doing so just leave it alone.

well I thank you all for your imput and want to always here and learn more. When I bought the car it was from an old woman whose husban had bought it new to drive to visit family in cali. that was it hwy miles. It was kept 12 years in a climate controled garage beside some vintage cars. I have tons of records for things replaved from oil changes, clutch, sensors, right down to headlights and detail jobs from when that car was proffessionally cleaned. I just recently went throught and checked all of these things that have been mentioned and what I havent I either had honda do or another shop that does some work for me. I replaced the trans, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, all the syncs and gears in the used trans case were replaced, the flywheel is new, oil pan gasket and bolts, oil pump, water pump, timing belt, balance shaft belt, head gasket, cleaned carbon off of valves and pistons while I was in there, cam seal, crank seal, valve cover gasket and spark plug gromets, thicker grounding wires replace the stock ones, new spark plug wires and plugs, rotor button, dizzy cap, batery cables and ends, battery, axles, rotors and brakes all 4 checked all brake lines and fittings, clutch master and slave cylinders, brake cylinder, had both clutch and brake systems flushed, ball joints , suspension checked by Honda, built the exhaust from factory header back by hand with a buddy of mine that builds and designs drag cars, we left the stock resitor but fabed everthing else, we took metal and curved it like a egg and welded other channels in it drilled holes and made the muffler for the right back pressure for the car when I say we I mean my friend he designed it and fabbed I done the dirty work, he used dust and a blow gun to see the flow pattern of the air then when he got it right welded it shut and made it where if I turbo he can crack t open and change anything that needs to be changed, and if I left out any thing I am sure that it was looked at or replaced at some time I have been working on getting and making sure everything from top to bottom is working properlyfor over a year before any performance stuff goes on becaus not only do I want it to look goood go fast but I want it to last a life time. I didnt want to post all of thins the first time caus it is alot to write. all the parts that I have used doing all of this is all new so it will last a long time. I didnt know much about this car when I started and I have done everything that I am familliar with so now on to other stuff that I can do right now I am trying to take some time off from spending so much cash I am addicted to it my car is like a drug. ok with all of that said whats next. whew I am beat that is a lot of typing.
