Question about timing and oil change

Ok, I couldnt really find much about the timing of the motor, now i know its something that can be adjusted. But once you set the timing, is it basically set it and forget it or is it something that should be checked every 10,000 km for example?

Also, I tried to do an oil change, but the filter is hard to get at, any solutions to this?

    Try harder.

It is in a PITA place to get to, though it can be done as long as you have your car jacked up or on ramps. You have to get to it from underneath the car. (**TIP** Dont do it while the engine is hot!)

I dont think you really have to check the timing every so often. Just when you feel like your engine is mis-firing or losing power ect. Just my thoughts anyways. Ive never messed with timing. Im used to working on my rotary, which doesnt have a timing belt.

dont worry about the timing.. and youre complaining about where the oil filter is????.. pssh.. hondas are one of the easiest cars to do an oil change on.. work ONE DAY at an oil change place and you will see how easy hondas are compared to other cars.. stop whining..

its my first oil change attempt give me a break, ok guys i attempted it again in daylight and its easier to find, someone above said to do it cold, but i disagree cause the oil would be thick then.

Give the car at least 20 min to an hour to cool depending on how hot it is outside. Exhaust pipes are hot and easy to burn yourself on. Plus the filter is directly above it, and its going to leak at least a little bit. Better to have it not catch on fire or something like that while your under the car

you can adjust your timing through the dizzy .. three bolts loosen turn dizzy to advance or retard, you may want too try a new cam gear too......the oil is a bitch under the intake manifold....easier to do from under the car

yea, ive accidently splashed some of the hot oil around my face and on my arm.

the timing is fairly easy with a light.
leaning would be 15+? right? i might want to lean it one or two for the smog check.

they simply mean to not attempt it RIGHT when youre done driving.. you can let it run for like 5 minutes or so just to warm it up a bit if you want...

nah camrys and some toyotas are MORE easy, open the HOOD, bam, its there...

but for us cars, and any cars, if its tight and hardened u just gotta loosen it, of course loosening something from underneath the car is harder than doing it from the top.

but my recommendation is, take it to jiffys or place like that and have them not tighten it so hard. w/ there car lifts, its much easier.. then the next time u do, it won't suck so bad.
                      hahahahah

agreed, for th oil filyters, there is no need in crawling under the car for toyotas. for my dads es300 and the camry, it is right in front of you, plus you dont spill oil everywhere.

trust me, there are a lot more pain in the ass filters than easy ones..

damn....the filter is nothing...try some domestics..they place it near the wheel wells so that you have to reach your arm in and around the tire, knuckle, etc.

and whats all this about it being too hot...jeez put a glove on, grab a rag and twist the filter off. once you feel it about to come off twist slower, position the pan right undereath and make sure you maneuver the filter so the oil doesnt spill..

id hate to imagine some of you guys trying to swap a motor in or replacing your axles...

agreed about the toyotas...they are easily accessed but even if you time it right you wont help but spill some oil cause the anlge the filter is at. try a toyota previa...LMAO i never knew they had the access right under the drivers seat.
