    Oil leak...

i have an oil leak somewhere, but not sure exactly where. there is a hose that goes into the head which is located right under the ignition coil. it seems to be leaking there but not sure. what doe sthat hose do? is it some kind of oil return line? cos the other end does not seem to go back to the pan...any suggestions? thanks!!

That should be a coolant line. You're probably leaking from either the distributor (o-ring) or a bad valve cover gasket and/or grommets.

a coolant line you say....on the distributor, there are 3 bolts that mount it. the bolt that is at the very bottom facing the firewall is usually dripping with oil. there is also oil splatter on the tranny housing and juts in that half of the engine bay.

so your saying its the dist o ring. i would need to remove the entire distributor to get at the o-ring. that is something i have never done before!! is there some website that shows you how to do it? i will have to remove the shaft and everything right?

Yup. There are no oil lines outside the engine except the tranny lines that go to the rad (for cooling) if you have an auto. The distributor o-ring is actually very easy to change. Take a scribe or some sort of marker (or even tape) and make a line to mark the position of the distributor in relation to the top mounting post. This is so you know where to put it back so the timing doesn't get messed up. Take out the 3 screws/bolts holding it down, slide the distributor out, change the oring, and slide it back in. The distributor has two teeth on it that meshes with the cam and there is only one way it will go on so don't worry about that.

YK86, i just sent you an IM. so will the valve cover need to be removed so i can make sure the teeth line up with the cam gear? will i have to take any of the interior parts apart within the distributor? thanks alot for your help!!

i think he just means positioning it since to adjust timing, you actually pivot the dizzy from the loosened 3 bolts. so make sure you mark the spot where you left it at.

there are no internal parts that will fall out or anything, lol. in order to access the internal parts, the cap and rotor would have to be removed which you dont have to touch.

ok so the only thing that has to be done to remove the entire distributor are the 3 bolts holding it to the mounting bracket?

once those are loose the entire distributor just slides out? is there a way to pull it out or does it just slide out? what about the shaft?

so i dont have to remove the valve cover or remove the cap or rotor? thanks all!!

You don't have to touch a thing except the 3 bolts. After that, pull the whole distributor out (it'll slide out, it MIGHT need a bit of a tug but nothing to worry about). No need to take off the valve cover or cap/rotor. The important thing is to mark the distributor so you know where it was before removal and that the "teeth" that meshes with the cam is lined up with the slots in the cam. You'll know what I mean when you take it out.

Which 3 plugs would these be? I too have oil leakage under my distributor, so I am thinking of changing it this weekend. I also will prolly change the lower spark plug seals, since I failed to do so last time (thought those 4 seals were just extras in the felpro kit )

the 2 idiots, evol90accord and mayberry4thgen, what does the type of car i own have any relevance to taking a distributor off? and how am i owned? hhmmm that must be your 5th grade logic at work. i guess if you both get together you could get to a highschool level.

i won rookie of the year award in solo 2 three years ago when i was running in novice class....what do you have to offer to the table besides your ignorance and stupidity? i guess thats why i drive a type r and you dont

what is this forum ment for? its to learn and share experience...so again what does my owning a particular car have anything to do with the other. i have never needed to take a distributor off before, what is so hard to understand about that? the stupidity and ignorance that you 2 have just shown are astounding...i guess there are haters and retards everywhere.

                            *getting off my pulpit*
