    Clutch and tranny questions

I have a few questions regarding the above topic, here is a bit of background info first. I drive a 90, 5spd, 4dr, exr. I bought the car in Dec. from my bro and mods are H22A engine swap, generic short ram intake, DC header, Ractive exhaust, and spoon chipped. I have planned on changing my timing belt, balancer belt, water pump, necessary seals, and doing manual tesioner conversion (thanks to bustedLx & cpmike for post) at the end of May for some time now. A few weeks ago i noticed my car acting strange and a week ago it became really bad and i realized it was my clutch. It engages in gear fine but when i give it gas the revs raise but car barely moves (this is the clutch right?). Bad news is i need a new clutch good news is this happened before i did my timing belt. It should be noted that my curent tranny is from a 99 accord and 3rd gear syncrho is going(grinds) aswell cash flow is minimal. Finally i don't plan on doing anything to carzy to my car for a few years(250hp tops) when i go turbo. Anyways if ur still reading thanks and here are my questions.

1)Are this clutch kits any good, has anyone had any experience with them, and will it be reliable (i don't want to do this again until FI)?

2)Should i upgrade the throw out bearing in the kit? A friend bought some cheap bearing and after 2 weeks it started to squeak, I don't like bad noises.

3)The H23 tranny, does it mount right up to the H22, if so is this a good tranny option and how is it geared (like the accord or prelude)?

4)I have a good f22 tranny in my garage, aswell as a 2nd bad one, but theres a hole in the case and 3rd is grinding too. I'm mechanically inclined but have never opened up a car tranny. Approx. how long would it take to switch casings and replace the syncro set? Is it worth the effort?

5)Is the accord tranny strong enough for the H22? because all 3 trannies that have been in the car the syncros have gone.

6)How strong is the prelude LSD tranny, and how long will it last? Can the LSD unit withstand approx. 350-400 whp (in the future)?

I believe thats everything. I need to have clutch and working tranny within two weeks tops cause thats when the engine is comin out. Any help or even suggestions would be greatly appreciated so that i can make a good decision.

BTW im fairly new to this site and i thinks its awesome a good community of knowledgeable people sharing useful information. Thanks for reading and if u can help me thanks again.

no i heard exedy OEM replacement clutches suck BALLS. i personally just installed a fidanza flywheel. as far as the xtd stage 3 goes, it has about the same gripping power as a stage 1 exedy i believe

            1. go with th 2nd one but like someone said...the oe clutch wouldnt be able to handle the lightened flywheel as well since it revs faster.
            2. exedy's throwout bearings should be fine...
            3. h23 does mount up and has longer gearing, thus it will makre more top-end speed.
            4. opening up the case and everything is like a weekend job, it is pretty complicating but can be done.

            5. accord tranny wont last very long on the h22 engine, unless you baby it and dont race it, lol.
i know one guy on HAN that was running his h22 on the f-series tranny and it blew out...but he has a built engine. id still wouldnt advise of it unless it is of really good condition.

            6. as for this one, i wouldnt know.
            I <3 G60.

so basically with the lightened flywheel OEM clutch is no good and exedy is bad. Whats the quality of the XTD clutch (i assume since its "stage 3" it should be good for now, although their flywheel is a bit heavier). Wed3k thats a helpfull link, but based on my past experience aswell as others i think i'll try the H series tranny this time, maybe even LSD if i can find one for a fair price. But i still think i'll take apart my old tranny just to see how it goes.

              Any other help/opinions/suggestions out there?

Actually, the F22 tranny is every bit as strong as the H22 tranny. The gearing is just longer. If you're planning on going turbo, that's actually a very good choice! The H series trannies will require you to rev too high and shift too soon... You can remain in boost longer with the F tranny. The H23 tranny is your next best bet.

People say the F22 trannies are weak mainly because every tranny they get thier hands on has a lot of miles on it! Give me an H22 tranny with 170k on it, and we'll see how long it lasts!

BTW, I drive my H22 as hard as I drove my F22. In both cases, the synchros started to go in about 2 years. Different gears, but they're going! (2 in the F, and 3 and 5 in the H)

When I go turbo I'll be using the f22 tranny, hopefully i can find the euro spec type R, but that wont be for a few years. For now i think the H22 series tranny is what i want to go with

don't look at what "stage" it is, look at the gripping power it has...

gripping power and make sure you take 15percent off for the wheels and be sure to call the company.
