    oil and grease clean up needed 4 tranny

    this is what the tranny i just bought looks like, and i wanna get it cleaned up before i get it installed...

    throwout bearing? i have the speed sensor and the gear shaft but thats the only part i thought i needed...

          i used throttle body cleaner and some kerosene. then with a clothe clean it... make sure i plug all the wholes that might get kerosene in the tranny. after its all dryed up u won't belive how clean it will look.

            All the suggestions above work great. I usually use Gunk Engine degreaser (about $3 a can), let it sit for a bit, then scrub it with an old toothbrush for a dirty engine/tranny like yours where it's really grimy and sticky. Simple Green works great for mildly dirty parts and also for touching up after using the heavy duty stuff. Make sure you stuff some old towels or something in the holes to keep the stuff from going inside internally. I like giving it a nice paint job with silver/aluminum colored high temp stuff after so it looks like a brand new tranny or block.

                im using simple green straight out of the bottle as the concentrate and it cleaned up all the oil and build up around the oil pump housing and other shit in that area.. you can dilute it if you want, but as a concentrate this shit rules..

                  orange cleaner works well too, and so does degreaser. Just use a brush, sponge and then something to wipe off the excess grease...good luck
