    Hard starts in the morning.

Ok, here's the conditions: It will not start on first turn in the morning after sitting through the night parked. On second turn, it starts easily. I park it at 8pm and get up to start it at 8am.

Now I know I'm 1k past an oil change, and time to do spark plugs. But here's the other things I'm facing, I believe I need to do water pump/timing belt soon because I'm at 174k and do not know when it was last changed. Also I know for sure I need a valve cover gasket due to the gook around the cover. But I do not know anything further than this.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to do some maintenance work. Plugs, cap and rotor, fuel filter, oil change, timing and balanceshaft belt, and water pump. While the valve cover is off, you might as well do a valve adjustment as well. A badly clogged fuel filter might be the cause of your hard starts in the morning. I don't know how to explain it but the fuel pump needs to pump for a bit to get the gas to pressurize through the clogged filter to get enough to the engine to start. If you don't know when any of that stuff was done, get it done asap especially the timing belt.

I think it could be your battery. I had the same problem as well. It wasnt getting enough juice, on its first try. You could get it tested for free.

If its not that then it is probably fuel related.
