    90 Accord LX overhead problem

I'm having an overheating problem suddenly.

When i stop anywhere stationary for any period of time my temp gauge shoots up. I'm running about a 70/30 ratio of water to coolant in the radiator. Heres what i've checked

    1. Replaced thermostat ( there wasnt even one in it )
    2. Made sure it had adequate water
    3. Made sure i had no radiator leaks
    4. checked for water in the oil ( didnt find any)
    5. Changed radiator cap (figured better safe then sorry)

this only happens when i am stationary if i'm cruising at any speed whatsoever the gauge is fine just when i stop does it happen. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for any help.

Are you sure you don't have a leak anywhere? ....coolant hoses, passages, waterpump, etc. Are you having any aother drivability issues? Let me ask you this, when you are stopped in P or N and you hold the revs at about 3K or so, does the temp go down, or continue to go up?

the temp continues to go up no mater what when im at a stop. if i stop and check my water its boiling hot and overflows so i wait for the overclow to stop (while cars running) and add more water

        do the fans work???????
put ur ac on cold and see if the fans come on.. if they do then they are ok.. if they don't then take it from there(like check the sensor at the thermostat housing and check the fan motor.)

        do u lose any coolant????
are we there yet are we there yet are we there yet

Yep I was just gonna say that, turn on the A/C and make sure both fans are running. If they are not, unplug the fan switch on the therm housing and jump the connector, if they come on you know ist the fan switch. check and advise...

both fans run after i have the car turned off most of the time. i am not losing any coolant anywhere, but will check the fan thing as the fans dont seem to always come on all the time. Sometimes they are on sometimes they dont come on when the temp is high already. will check tomorrow and report back.

The only time both fans should be on is when you using the a/c i have never heared my fan come on after i turn the car off.

I hate to jump on your thread but my 93 SE is doing the same thing, with the temp gauge. Everything you've bought, I've bought. My fans will run for about 2 mins after I turn off the car. Then they'll come on for like 2 seconds and off again. They do that like 10 times in 5 mins. Then it's like they'll come on for another 2 mins and then off for good.

fans are coming on as they are supposed to, could this be a water pump problem? I replaced thermostat about 7 months ago and that first the problem til about 2 weeks ago. what ratio of coolant to water should i use and would it hurt to run 100 percent coolant?

You said ur running 70/30 mix. I thought it was 50/50 mix of coolant and water?

its 50/50 but i keep it at 70/30.....

so u have enough fluid in there. in the morning open the radiator cap and check if u need more fluid....

next time it starts to overheat do i like this.... if it owerheats put the ac and and check if the temp goes down. if it dont then drive the car and check it the temp goes down.....
