    4th gen throttle problems...need help

    For a few months now:
Me (93 lx) and my friends car (92 ex), plus someone on HS all are having this problem, oh yeah all of ours are autos. Basically when i startup my car it idles and runs prefectly fine at 1k. As soon as a put it into reverse the rpms jump to 1.5K and stay there. I feels as if someone is pushing the gas cause my car wil backup very quickly and my intake makes a louds sucking noise as if the throttle was depressed. When it does that, i would put in in park or nuetral and the rpms jump to 2K then drop back to 1k and return to normal. Next, when ever i put it drive right after i reversed it would do the same thing. It would go up to 1.5K and it would be stuck there, without pushing the gas i can get up to 20mph. While driving, if i let off the gas it would sometimes fall down to 1k and be ok, but other times it would get stuck at 1.5k and it makes it very difficult to stop the car. My dad took it to a mechanic, they cleaned the the fuel injectors, but it didn't do shit.
    As of today:
Today i had time to work on this problem. I took off the TB cleaned the hell out of it, got a new TB gasket and got a new PCV vavle (broke it today), also i changed the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube gasket cause it was leaking oil down into the spark plug. When i had it all back together, i started to car and the idle started to jump up and down, I fixed that after adjusting the idle control valve. Now the sad part, the problem is still there. However my idle has dropped down to 500 (can't get it to go up any higher anymore =( ) and it's still doing what it did before i worked on it today cept instead of getting stuck as 1.5k it's doing it around 1.1k.
What i know for sure is that the throttle cable isn't sticking and the TB plate isnt sticking.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I desperatly need some help on this.....sorry for the long read.

you heard about this site from SHO huh hahaha....
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Was it hard to change the spark plug tube gasket? Do you need to remove tghe valve cover for changing them? I think I ned to change mine because I see oil leaking on 2 of the plugs and my valve cover is leaking oil.

It's not hard at all. I changed the ones on top...You need to get the 4 spark plug seals (might as well do them all) and a new valve cover gasket. Unbolt your valve cover, the spark plug tube gaskets might be stuck on the block, just peel it off, they could be also in the valve cover. You'll see when you open it up. Anyways clean up the areas where the valve gasket and spark plug tube gaskets seal. Then you just put the new valve cover gasket into the groove on the cover, also on the cover, there are oval grooves for you to put the new spark plug tube gaskets in, then bolt it all back together.

            Valve Cover Gasket - #12341-PT0-000 x1
            Spark Plug Tube Seals - #12342-PT0-000 x4
            Valve Cover Sealing Washers - #90441-PT0-000 x4

I would also recommend some Ultra Grey (available from Permatex) silicone on the tube seals and the humps in the valve cover gasket.

Just a quick update, I manage to fix the problem today. It turns out to be a vacuum line after all. I installed my intake about two years ago and the intake only had one port for the large hose running to valve cover and it didn't have one for the vacuum line (smaller hose running accross the IM to the starting valve), so i plugged it up. Ran prefect for two years, but for some reason now it makes the car act like the throttle is stuck. So i unplugged it, got an adapter and put one of those breather filters on it. My car runs great now...just wanted to post this in case anyone in the future has the same problem.

Could you post a pic of your engine bay so I could see how you did that trick with the breather and vacuum line, I kinda don't understand what you were talking about I think I need to see a pic of it.

Yeah, i'll post some pics as soon as I can get outside to take some pics, it's been raining the whole day so far. Did you have any trouble changeing those spark plug tube seals and is it still leaking?

No not yet but the kit came with a Valve Cover Gasket, 4 Valve Cover Grommets,4 Spark Plug Tube Seals, and 4 Spark Plug Seals look like o-rings? I duno what the Spark Plug Seals are for since they already come with Spark plug tube seals?

Is it this kit? Inside the valve cover gasket is first the gromnets, spark plug tube seals, then the o-ring is the lower spark plug tube seal. You have to take off the valve train to replace the lower ones...i didn't do it since mine was leaking from the upper part of the tube.

Yup thats how it looks like, but how do you know if you have to replace only the top or bottom seals, I don't trust myself installing the lower ones since you need to remove the valvetrain to install them, all I know is that oil is seeping onto my plugs.
                        Thanks for the pic.

The way i knew to replace the top one was that i could see the oil seeping through the top gasket when i pulled spark plug cable out, basically the top gaskets had oil on them. Another way is when you have the cover off and the spark plug tube gaskets are still on the block, peel off the old tube gasket if you see any oil under them, then it leaking from there. If it still leaks after replacing the the top gaskets and you made sure you had a good clean seal, then replace the bottom one. It's pretty hard i heard to replace the bottom ones so you might wanna take it to a mechanic.
