    exposed filter & it's raining...

i've already talked to some other guys about this before, but i'd like some more opinions... here's the scenerio:

i was racing at the track about 2 weeks ago, and i took out my bumper lense to try and jam some more cold air into the filter. but, when i hit around 80 mph, all of that forceful air going into that little tiny slit, loosened the bolts on my wheel well shroud (fender lining), and it blew right off of the car from inside of the fender. i didn't think it came off of my car when i saw it (the only place i looked was underneath of my car), i thought it was someone else's that i ran over. so, some guy in a pickup truck hauled it away.

anyways... now, for the past 2 weeks, the filter has been more exposed than it normally is... and the tires have been flinging dirt and stuff up into it. i am going to replace the splash guard tomorrow (i'm heading up to the junkyard to pull one off), and i'm also going to replace the filter w/ a brand new K&N (since the aem one is pretty dirty). but, today it is raining a decent amount outside. i just got back from dropping my sister off at work, and i checked the filter - and it was soaked... like, dripping. i DO have the bypass valve, but is this healthy for my car? i mean... i still have to get to work today, but that's it....

    thanks for the input/info fizz...

yeah, i been thinking about just replacing the filter with a K&N one though, instead of cleaning the aem one. what do you think of putting a K&N on my aem intake? or should i just clean the aem filter?

werd. Just buy the K&N air filter recharge kit to maintain the performance of the filter. I clean mine every 3-4 months.

i thought a dirty k & n filter filters better than a brand new k & n filter...in my opinion cleaning your air filter that early is too much...id wait a year at least....but thats only me. hehe.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

ah..i guess u live in a dirty area...hehe here in sacramento california...all their is is smog and pollen. my filter stays clean for at least 2 years...i just change it anyways.

i use a high quality paper filter that big rigs use becuase its high flow and the highest filtration (for a paper filter)..hard to find and only an anal fool like me would try. i tried k & n and out of the box..i check 2 weeks later and had oil inside my throttle body...returned it, got a new one, same thing..so i said forget it.

          take care man.

The fender lining comming off is common as hell for All Hondas even with the bumper still on. Both of my accords have done it and I actually started a thread about it on AR....

              http://importstreetscenes.com/tech/s...ht=fender+well

Racing or driving it like an old granny doesn't matter with the fenderwell cause lots of people came off even when they were doing speeds less than 80.

As for the filter, mine is semi-exposed now from where the fender lining got chewed up from the tire. It doesn't really flood here, but there's lots of big puddles. If you have a bypass valve then you're chances of hydro-lock are slim-to-none. So in that case, you may have to clean the filter a little more often like fizzbob said and pay a little more attention to it but it should be fine.

im scared to drive in the rain, i got a CAI and it is exposed a little bit, when i look in between my hood and fender gap i can see the filter down there so im scared it will get wet and suck up water, and even through the front bumper near the bumper lights you can see it, im gonna get a bypass valve soon bcuz of this, and for winter im gonna make it a short ram intake....

I was wondering if this CAI is a short ram or if it extends behind the front bumper? Click here to look at it on ebay. I emailed the seller so I will hear from him too but I wanted to get a heads up if you guys knew since it looks like a lot of you had the AEM intakes which go behind the front bumper so I hope you guys can determine if this one on ebay is a outside CAI by looking at the pipes and comparing your own. It seems weird that these are about 30 bucks and a AEM off of ebay is 130 bucks. What did all of you guys pay for yours?

I bought mine off of ebay and it's just like that for $70 shipped (a long time ago). The bottom piece (with the nipple / "s" shaped), will go inside your engine bay. The upper piece (w.o nipple / "L" shaped) will extend from the end of the "S" pipe, through the body near the battery, and down in front of the wheel well. Hope that made sense.

It made sense, I just didn't think those pipes were long enough to extend all the way to the bumper. Thanks, I hope to be getting one soon.
