    Automatic Transmission kickdown cable issue

    Hi everyone.

So i replaced my auto trans maybe a month ago, i did the 3x3 fluid swap and all was well, but the car always shifted a bit harshly. Today i adjusted my TPS and it has made a huge difference! the car is incredibly smooth now!

    Here is my issue

the car would always shift at a maximum of 5.5, now it shifts at 6, after i did what i described below.

with my transmission cable connected, i could never get the TB to go to WOT.

i disconnected it and it works fine.

i tried to adjust it on the bracket but at max adjustment i could only get the TPS to read 4.3V.

what i did is take the cable out, and move both nuts below the bracket. this means nothing is holding it in, but it works properly now.

i think either the bracket is bent or the cable is too short. the motor is a prelude f22a1, maybe the transmission cables are slightly different lenghts? as i replaced it with a cb7 sedan transmission.

oh, and everyone ADJUST YOUR TPS! huge difference in power deleviry and gear selection.

also, drove up a hill the other day and the trans started to overheat, i believe this was due to the bad cable and bad tps adjustemnt causing the car to constantly change gears and get hot.

    oh well, its sorted now.

So, any ideas about the cable?

    thanks guys.
sold! But here's my build thread for those interested.

It takes about three changes (2.5 of 6 quarts at a time) to change out most of the fluid. Assuming you have proper free play in the throttle cable to the throttle body and the throttle control lever on the transmission moves smoothly/freely, the service manual states:

    Make sure:
Throttle cable free play is correct
    Idle speed is correct
Warm up engine to normal operating temperature

    1. Verify that the throttle linkage (on transmission) is in the full closed position (down)

    2. Loosen the locknut of the throttle control cable at the throttle control lever.

    3. Remove the free play of the throttle control cable (to the transmission) with the locknut, while pushing the thottle control lever to the full-closed position (down).

    4. Tighten the locknut.

The cable can be adjusted up to 2 mm (about 2 turns) shorter than the position established above to tailor to your driving habits.

After I did my swap I had shifting issues & did this, it worked, then went and copied the amount of exposed threads on my CD5 as it was untouched and that got it perfect, then I tweaked it a couple more turns to get it where I wanted it for road rage episodes. Ill go get you some pictures.

My issue is that I've adjusted the TPS to its correct values (0.48 closed, 4.5 WOT), and it drives amazing with the way I've changed it.

If I put the nut to a position similar to yours, I can't hit wot as the transmission cable is limiting movement.

Here is how I currently have it, doing it like this doesn't make me feel safe but the bottom nut is locked in so it probably won't move but I dont like it. It feels wrong and not secured, but moving the nut up kills my throttle body action:

The bottom nut is just sitting there.

The other idea I had was that maybe I could bend the bracket down, that would solve it and would make sense as I did throw this transmission around a little when trying to get it in, but at the same Time I don't think the transmission lift point should bend.

The arm or the bracket is probably bent. Done seen that once before.

I had a similar issue on the H22 swapped CB I bought. My issue ended up being that I needed to swap the cable bracket on the TB.
