Bouncing gauges, car dies. Starts then dies immediately

What's up guys. Just had this issue today with my accord. I was driving about 50, noticed my gauges started bouncing up and down, and all of a sudden the car stalled. Tried to start it again and it starts but dies immediately. If I give it gas it will run for like 3 seconds then shut down again. When i turn the key to the "on" position, I'm getting no lights or anything on the dash, only when i try to start the car do I get dash lights. Radio heat and everything else works. Battery is fairly new and alternator was replaced. Also did a full time up when I got the car, plugs wires Spark plug tube seals, rotor and cap. Any idea what could be causing this. I need to get this running ASAP since its my winter car. Also forgot to add that the fuel pump DOES prime
    When I turn the key.

    Thanks!

If my memory serves me correctly, I had an issue like this with one of my Accords; I had to hold the key just above the "run" position, but not quite to "start" to keep it running. New ignition switch (not the lock cylinder) fixed the problem.

I just tried what you said. I held the key in the "run" position and started the car. Car stayed running until I released the key. Then it died again. So I guess it would be the ignition switch then!

      Was it difficult to install?

Service manuals says to remove the steering wheel, then the column covers; I believe I did it without removing the wheel. The ignition electrical switch is on the left side of the column, opposite the lock cylinder. Trace the wire bundle down to the under dash fuse box, disconnect it. Insert the key into the lock cylinder, turn it to the "O" position, then remove the two screws and the electrical switch. Installation is reverse of removal.

Very similar symptoms in this thread and the ignition switch was the issue.

Gauges jump and car dies and won't stay running

There is also a DIY but the pictures don't work anymore. This would be a perfect opportunity to help the forum by contributing some updated pics for this DIY. Or making your own DIY.

I believe the steps are similar to a CD5 and most hondas

thanks guys. removed the old switch today, took a bunch of pics for the diy. Will take some pics when I install it tomorrow (ran outta daylight) So far this is the only mechanical failure ive had with this car in the 7,000 miles ive had it. I only paid $350 for the car so I cant complain one bit
