    check engine light

My question is probably simple but when a check engine light goes on I know it goes into default mode although since say I Un plug the TPS will it only ignore that or does it ignore all sensors?

The engine does not go into default mode for all malfunctions. The ECU will continue to make use of as many sensors as it can.

I don't know how much importance the ECU places on the TPS. The TPS is used primarily to let the ECU know that the load on the engine is changing. But it can still calculate spark timing and fuel injector pulse width from the MAP, engine speed, and oxygen sensors. It will just be behind somewhat when the throttle is changing. Probably not important enough for the ECU to go into a default mode if the TPS signal is missing, but I don't really know.

Okay awesome. Lately my car has been doing something I have mentioned a few times trying to track down the culprit (e.x freeway driving having to gradually gain speedas if I was to try a hard acceleration I would get back fires and engine jerking like it wanted to stall) the problem is gone when the TPS is disconnected though it returns with it back in the game. I tried a different one from the j.y although it didn't change things. I took that one back and when my engine cools I will be trying one more and pray it works
